Got that from another page regarding dust in this forums so now I'm wondering...
Will Dust not have any of the non-combat functions, economy, and socialization that many of us have been hoping for/wanting? |

It's beta so we won't know for awhile about non-combat functions. The economies will eventually be tied together. The games will share a mailing system. |

Can we get a definition for "non-combat"?
Would this mean just general walking around and socializing with some added interaction? If so i read somewhere about the current lobby being a full ship that you can explore and talk with people in etc etc. Though that may have just been a random user and not an actual dev blog. |

Also, I vaguely remember hearing something about exploration.
And mining in DUST would be hilarious. |

Exploring, scavenging, mining, construction work...
I could totally see players going down to a planet and helping with the construction of their corp's on-world facilities if there's some kind of incentive to doing so. |

In a nutshell, once buy and sell orders are established in Dust the same way as in Eve, then we should no doubt expect players cashing in on the ISK margins by simply market trading without so much as firing a single shot. |

I appreciate some people who want non combat roles from their FPS might be disappointed, but you do have the option to play EvE for the economic side of things. Dusters don't have jump freighters ;) I posted that article because people were using MMO/RPG reasons to excuse poor areas of the FPS side. Here's a link to te full article. http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/04/29/dust-514-promises-to-be-a-game-changer-an-interview-with-ccp-games-ceo-hilmar-petersson/2/ I really think EvE players need to realise that they will still be #1 for CCP. As a political / social system Dust can't compete (no teamspeak/mumble/ventrilo or IRC on PS3). I will say te social side will be there. PvE will be where people just chill out and do "non combat" things like learning the hokeycokey. What Dust should be IMHO is a top class FPS, and a tool for EvE corporations to use against each other. Social aspects will be very strong in Dust. Provided the FPS is good, they can add bars, alliance tournament tickets and exotic dancers. It all just takes time... but the FPS bit needs to be good to play while the PS home type things are added. |

It sounds to me like they're concentrating on polishing the main part of the game, the shooting, before turning their attention to the interaction with Eve and other non-combat stuff.

Yes,
there will be PVE, but not in premier day. They plan in to implement it letter.. |

Rogue Drones is the only confirmed PvE that's coming, and it's PvE combat. NOT a non-combat position.
Although I suppose a full-featured repair fitting where you don't shoot anyone would also count as a non-combat role... kind of. |

I think you're missing the point.
From my understanding the social and economic aspects of EVE will be integrated into Dust, they have to be. BUT Dust is aiming to go up against the likes of CoD and BF, so the marketing pitch highlights the 'instant action blow stuff up' aspects, because that's the market they want a slice of.
It's easier if you consider EVE and Dust to be one game, let's call it New Eden Online (NEO). the PC client accesses one aspect of that game; spaceships, mining, huge galactic wars fought on a massive scale; while the PS3 client access another aspect; First Person, Tactical Team combat, pounding the ground. These different viewpoints on the same universe will share comms; chat, mail and voice. And they'll share an economy because that's what drives the conflicts (which in turn drives the economy, getting a bit recursive)
The bits that can cross over (communications, shared mail, chat and voice systems, API etc) will, from what I've picked up from dev blogs, fanfest presentations and face time with devs.
So stop worrying and love blowing stuff up, the rest will come in time. |

Never underestimate the ingenuity of players. If Eve players can figure out the system, they will find ways to make it work the way they want it to. You just have to give it time. |

I would like to land on the planet with the mercs and set up a band and play music while you kill,or maybe we could have race tracks off to the side for lav racing........or just maybe we could play this like a fps and run around shooting people in the face.(i know the last choice is absurd) |

I actually had a decent idea on this. Non combat players can be miners, everyone else is a normal clone soldier. 6miners 6 soldiers per team, 1 pile of loot in the middle. Whoever mines the most wins (those soldiers will be shooting miners btw, so it's sorta 1 sided non combat) It'd be a pretty rare game mode though I think. But I'd rather play that than ambush. |
