Greetings,
Fobhopper wrote:will there be a bounty system when dust goes live? Because I swear there would be a few players I would happily put a bounty on *cough cough* bad furry *cough*, among others. I would love to see a bounty system like we have in EVE, but I can't figure out a good way to do it. In EVE the bounty is for podding, which we can't do in Dust because we aren't pod pilots.... We could do it for killing them, but is one time enough? Or does the bounty only get paid if they are killed x times in a battle, or is it paid if they are below Y K/D rate?
No, while I would love a bounty system, I can't really see a good way to do it.

simply put, the bounty get put into a pool, and whenever someone kills the bounty target past the first time, they get a small chunk of that bounty. So it gives incentive to keep hunting down the same person to keep getting more bounty money on the target, as long as you can kill the past the first time or else everyone would possibly get the bounty. and you wouldnt get anything for the assist, so that way you dont have large groups of people trying to farm he player for money, only the killing shot counts. |

Actually, as it does in EVE, this would cause the opposing team to ignore the objectives and just hunt the bounty. Okay, so only the killing shot get's the bounty, you are still going to have everyone trying for it and they will all take pot-shots in the hopes of getting the killing shot..
Still no. In EVE there is value to the bounty besides the money... They lose their ship and their implants, and possibly some of their SP, and you get to loot / salvage their ship and a kill mail, we don't have that in Dust, and unless they are using straight prototype level Aurum gear, losing one clone, or even 10, is not much of an issue for even someone as competent as Bad Furry... That is value, what you are proposing will be nothing but money transfer and grief.

Death isn't really such a big deal in Dust. I'm not sure a bounty would have much weight to it. Would the target of a bounty who was successfully hunted even be aware that their death was in response to the bounty, rather than simply one of the deaths they'd routinely experience in a match? I don't know. I don't think bounty hunting would have any real teeth. |

the only way i could see a bounty system work in dust is if all you did was put a set 24h bounty ammount on a player , litterally to grief them by making the enemy teams that play againsed the player painfully aware where he is all the time by adding a massive bounty icon above his head and location on the overview map for 24 hours. killing him would provide the killer with a tiny isk bonus every time they kill a bounty target.
or
killing a player with a bounty icon on the battlefield gives 100k bonus evey time they are killed , the person who set the bounty puts in the there total bounty amount , and every kill made againsed the bounty target gets deducted from what the bounty ammount was.
example: player 1 puts a bounty on player 2, player 1 sets total bounty to 500k isk, this means the bounty player 2 would have a bounty icon above his head in game for 5 kills as killing him reduces the bounty amount by 100k every kill for the total ammount of player 1's 500k isk.
some ideas.
but i dont think a bounty sytem is really needed in dust. |

As I remember, eve's bounty system was completely broken. It just becomes a source of pride to see how high you can get it or a source of income for the person that has the bounty on them. I don't see it being any different if dust had one. For instance, if they had a bounty that they wanted to collect, then get a few friends to join a battle. Have the bounty person enter and leave battles until he gets the one with one of his buddies on the opposite side, then have his buddy kill him over and over again in a militia suit. Split the reward and move on. When there are private matches, corp matches and other things like that, it will only become easier to collect your own bounty.
It could even become a nice source of income if the person keeps a specific toon just for pissing ppl off and another toon for actually playing. |

Maybe the best way to do bounties is to let the person setting the bounty set conditions for it, example if I wanted to put a bounty on Noc( sry Noc you were the first name to come to mind) I may set so the bounty is only paid if he is using certain gear/equipment (like while in a sagaris) so if he is killed under any other circumstance the bounty would not be paid
another criteria maybe number of deaths, example I may set it so your only paid a bounty for every 5th kill, or for every kill after the 5th or 3rd or what ever the person setting the bounty wants to set it at
And the only other condition I can think of maybe the most important is pay, and for that I suggest letting the person setting the bounty choose do they want it to be one lump some to one person or do they want it to be a smaller amount paid to every merc to meet the requirements, everytime they meet the requirements till limit set by the contract is reached |

Not true, just make it work through a 'goggle' system.
If your suit has the 'Bounty Hunter Mod' - then you see who has been marked for death by a Skull above their head ( or something less obvious), you could then kill the bastard for the extra points. Since the mod takes up a slot, not many people will bother with it.
However, if you kill the person without the mod, then it won't count and the bounty will remain active.
Problem solved.

Yes, please, put a bounty on my head. In EVE, I used to put bounties on my own head to get people to come try to collect the bounty... Have a friend who used to keep a 1B ISK bounty on himself. Whenever he would go back to null sec he would pull out his alt and recover his bounty, work his standings back up to 5, then go back to OMS and start all over again. IIRC he was in the Battle Clinic top 150 ship killers at one point. And no one ever collected his bounty accept his alt.
