Does anyone have any info on what the guys in CCP plan to do with the possibilities of "Non Warfare Roles"? I understand this sort of thing sounds ridiculous on a FPS. But lets face it: DUST is not a normal game. If it's going to be a part of EVE online, It'd be nice if we DUST players could bring just as much to the table in New Eden as EVE pilots can.
True, we will be filling a role that no player in EVE can fill: The ability to engage in ground combat over planets. But if we are going to be sharing space with EVE players, we will need ways to take part in EVE politics and the EVE economy. Players in EVE have the ability to mine for ores in asteroid belts, build items and materials, sell goods at the market, explore, salvage materials, and even do things like spy on other players or pirate other players. So my point is, how does CCP plan to allow DUST players to do things other than just shoot people? We've seen things like being a medic or repair man, but these don't extenuate outside the battlefield. Will their be any access to our corp-owned planets when we are not fighting on them? Can we act as mining crew? As salvagers who don't show up until after the battle is over and strip items and equipment off of dead players and broken machines? Can we spend majority of our time acting as politicians in the comfort of our space stations? Will there be any way to explore planet surfaces? ( I seriously doubt that last one, but hey: Wishful thinking )
And lastly, If CCP hasn't done ANYTHING like this, than is it at all a possibility that it could be implemented at a later date, like how Captains Quarters were implemented into EVE years after its release?
Im aware that the possibilities that any of these things be added is low because this is a free to play game and these things would make the game much more deep and therefore more expensive. Still, does anyone have other ideas as to how these sort of game mechanics could work? |

Asno,
I'm intrigued. How do you think some of these contracts you've listed are going to be implemented into the game so that EVE players will organically create them? I can see the archeology contract working if EVE players who hire us Dust Bunnies could discover their location while scanning a planet themselves, issue a contract based on its location, pay us for our troubles and take the excavated goods to sell for oodles. Aside from that, gladiator games, and Security onboard stations, I don't see how the rest are implemented. Please explain.
Regardless, thank you for your intelligent commentary (and corrections). |

Wow, making the planets a sandbox mode??? That sounds banging awesome. I have some doubts that It'll happen, but if it does.... |
