I wouldn't mind seeing this added in, at some point, as a feature.
I know we can replenish items if we run out in battle by going into the menu and buying more. However, I would like to see an option where I could, for example, tell the game to autoreplenish a specific rifle or dropsuit. I would like the ability to do this for as few or as many items as there are to be replenished.
It would be nice to not have my loadout go invalid, mid battle, even if it only would happen due to poor player advanced planning.
I still think this would just make the game a lot easier on more casual players who we all need for fodder.

Feedback or request?
I like the idea, for the select dropsuit screen would be nice.
But a GM should move this thread. |

This has already been suggested before, and the reason why it is a bad idea is that eventually most of the things you'll be buying would be bought from other players.
The first problem with that is how do you determine who you buy what from?
The second is that you'd have no clue how much you'd be paying. If you set a module to auto-buy someone could set the price to two million ISK a piece and you'd automatically bankrupt yourself.
That's why there isn't an automatic re-stock option. |

Oh, come on. It'd be trivial to write a script that only auto-restocks within a certain pricerange.
This,
Card Drunook wrote:[...] [another] reason why it is a bad idea is that eventually most of the things you'll be buying would be bought from other players.
[...] how do you determine who you buy what from? however, is a more realistic issue. I don't know much about the EVE universe(I swear I'm going to read up on it soon, promise!), but I imagine there would be contracts brokered by the various corporations / merc groups that would deal not only with who would be supplying what, but at what price, for how long and/or in what quantities, etc.. In fact, by doing this, it would address the issue that OP brings up while also enriching the realistic, player-driven gameplay that CCP is aiming for.
As for the whole 'restocking in the field' issue, I don't know why you can even do that now; I think it should be taken out. Part of the point of DUST is that it's more tactical/strategic than your regular run-of-the-mill FPS. If you can't at least work out how much equipment you need to go into the field with to avoid the risk of invalidating a fitting, well... |

I don't think it would be very hard to implement. Basically you as the player would be able to set a price range, probably don't even need a range even just a max price, if there are non that are under your max price it doesn't restock and notifies you. That way you don't need to worry about it buying something that's way over priced.
Yah.. that sounds simple enough to code.
+1 to OP for the idea

In eve, many items can have a price variance simply based on where the item is. In dust, we may see the same thing. So how could you autobuy an item when it is dozens of light years away. I do not see how it would work out honestly. |

Just like having the ability to set a max price for your auto-replenish you could do the same with how far away items are. I don't see how that's going to work in Dust though, I mean what are we gonna do walk outside of our merc quarters, jump in a ship and fly through gates like EVE players? |

I was JUST about to say that. You are correct, a buy order is precisely what would do this for you.
I would also presume that the DUST market would be either singular, or linked to one of the major trade-hubs, like Jita.
A large part of the market in EvE is the WHERE of something, so things that are cheap in Hi-Sec might be expensive in Low, hence profit is to be made hauling goods (or robbing those who are hauling). And EvE supports that. DUST doesn't, so it would be a bit harsh to expect a Merc to "shop around" for best price without the ability to go fetch. |

I think that "shopping around" should be a part of the game. If you do not leave highsec, then you have better access to items. If you fight in 0.0, then you will need to bring all of your goods with you, or take a chance on what is available on the market where you are going.
Having a system similar to eve would allow for entire professions to develop based around building items. Right now, these items are built by NPC corps. When Dust launches, these items will be built by player run corps. There could easily be a time when certain items are 100% unavailable unless you build it yourself. There will also be people who purchase the entire market just to screw with other players and their markets.
I agree that buy orders should exist; however, they should work just like eve's buy orders. Someone else has to fill it. The order should never just "auto fill" because you set a price. If someone is willing to pay more then you are, then the highest order should fill first, etc. |

When you select a dropsuit and it says invalid on the selection screen i would like to be aible to restock by pressing square and then decide what amount i want to restock. Cause at the moment i have to get to dropsuit fitting and restock it there. |

There is a very simple solution to the problem you see. Allow us to set a "max price per item" that we are willing to pay and then all the problems you just brought up go away.
The game can buy it from anywhere it can find it as long as its under the price limit you set.

Again this is what many first person shooter gamers whom CCP is trying to attract to the game do NOT want to be doing. Let the game find that stuff for me automatically, just have me set a max price I'm willing to pay and let the game do the shopping as it is needed.
If CCP wants to have more than just hardcore gamers playing Dust they need to consider how to make it more enjoyable for casuals and from what many of the shooter beta testers I'm playing with have said this manual replenishment is one of the "annoying" parts of the beta.

At the very least Restock needs to be more accessible mid-match. You shouldn't need to go to Neocom > Fitting > Dropsuit Fitting > Pick Dropsuit > Restock just to get into the battle. If a fit is invalid b/c of stock, you should be prompted with the Restock dialog when trying to pick it. |

I think you should just be able to set up loadout with a basic place holder item, purchased of course, then be charged as you spawn in with that fitting with prices listed in the selection screen.
That way you're always ever conscious of your investment and it adds to the tension if things aren't going so well.
How cool would it be if instead of a static (invalid) you got a loud buzzer sound and a blinking "insufficient funds" message |

I don't know about this auto refill idea I mean sure its kinda cool but if you don't have the sense to be stocked up enough for the match your going into then tough we shouldn't be able to restock during a match imo use the militia loadout and yea it sucks but you will most likely not make that mistake again and if you do you have more issues other than a restocking issue. |

once player production kicks in the market is going to look very scary to players not used to lots of numbers and words, but like some one above me said Buy Orders or something similar with player limits set would be the solution. but then they would have to sit through long boring tutorials on how it all works and they just think **** it and dissapear never to be seen again |

Issue with buy orders I can see is how would the items be transported around the universe
If you buy them in jita how do they get from that system to the one your fighting in and what kind of time scales would be involved in the items getting there?
Say for instance your hired by an eve player to attack a certain planet? Does that planet need to be supplied so you can keep the fight there or do you have to go back to empire / station system to restock before magically reappearing at the planet your under contract to attack and now I digress all together but how does your toon even move about in the eve universe *brainexplodes |

Well as see it curently when in battle between spawns or at the depot you would be buying at the corps contracted station? So the prices and numbers of available would be however many the corp has. As you would be in battle so the war economy is a closed market at that point and prices dictated by the corps I would assume to be higher than normal after all where ya gonna go leave a battle cause you where not ready? I am sure that corp will remeber that excuse. |

What about all the assholes that keep blowing up the supply depots, what sense does that make when you dont have any other way of resupplying ! or why cant we just pick up dead mans ammo like in all other shooters ?
Im always full to the tilt when i go in but keep running out of ammo ! and no there is hardly enough guys carrying nanos. Im running from one end of the field to the other and when i get there its ******* gone!!! |

Running out of ammo in the game is different than what they where saying I think. If your in a match and run out of dropsuits, mods or weapons and it becomes invalid they sugested you could have it set to auto resupply. I tend to think you should be prepared before commiting to a battle. At the same time I'm in favor of the corp your fighting the contract for to sell you the goods you need if you run out of them in the middle of a battle. But here is where it hits you, your in a battle you can not shop around you have one supplier who can dictate a unfair price hell I know I would jack the price up for people unprepared.
But as the game is right now I tend to think there is no need to worry about if you have enough fittings for the battle cause there is no consequence to buying them on the field or market. |

I understand what you are saying from a hardcore gamer perspective but I'm thinking of the casual guy who might play one or two hours a night 4 or 5 days a week. This type of option would free up some time and prevent some annoyance for them.
I want the game to be user friendly and enjoyable for the largest possible audience and think this type of feature would go a long way toward accomplishing that objective. |
