I live in Australia, and I'm on wireless, so I get frequent short dropouts from the network.
PLEASE add a RECONNECT TO GAME IN PROGRESS DIALOG.
I don't want to let my team down by leaving and never returning.

Like this. A lot.
These matches are going to mean a lot when we've got corps and are laying it all on the line.
I think for team matches with a commander, your slot in the squad should be held for you automatically, and the commander can then release the slot if he/she so chooses.
For matches without a commander, it hink it makes sense to reserve your slot for as whatever PS3 boot time + Dust load time + 30 seconds, or something like that.
For pub matches no slot reservation at all, that's the way the cookie crumbles for a lo-grade merc =P |

Those are good points. Lag is bad enough without being booted every second game, and your team shouldnt suffer for it either.

I just had a match where I killed 4 noob tower campers in one dropship stomp, and then got DCed... AND the game crashed to boot. Until CCP give me a reason to play this over LOL, I guess thats it, its just too frustrating to bother anymore. |

I agree and disagree, I would like to form groups within the corp that I can party with on a fixed basis so if I drop or one of the teammates a invite can be sent to them to re-enter the match. However if they are having major issues it might be better to take a break and find a new player to replace.
Though allowing anyone to send a invite and allow the other members to vote yes or no to adding another player. example would be a player drops and a vote to reopen the match pops up. everyone on the team can vote and majority vote wins. lets say they vote to not reopen the team, then anyone can invite a player say /invite "name here" command or something? then a vote pops up allowing all members of the team to vote yes or no and majority wins. |

Greetings,
Not to sound like a cad, but tough luck. Keep in mind that these games are "live" and, at least at present, very short lived. It sucks that you have trouble getting back in, but if you network is that bad, then it really is something you need to take care of. Or if it is on your ISP put pressure on them to fix their issue. CCP can and does peer with various providers where it makes sense, but it is a big world out there, they can't be every where.

No!!!!. Pop-Ups in any knid of near-real time activity are a really really really bad idea. All it is going to take is a pop-up within 10 seconds of someone getting popped for them to scream that they died because of the pop-up. Just No!

For short rounded games then I have to agree however I would like to see longer games that can be played maybe making that more PvE related? perhaps a open world area with objectives and would take a team of players 30 minutes to traverse and fight through? I enjoy PVP but sometimes I like to do other things and asking for a PVP of 30 minutes might not be fun after all if its a group that is owning it really isn't fun for either group if your getting creamed every 5 seconds you dont like it and want it to end, if your killing people every 5 seconds you might think great a bunch of noobs I want this to end so I can fight someone more my level.
That being said a PvE area with missions for each planet with thousands of planets we have truly lots of missions to undertake and if they are long haul missions you might want to have a certain party you group with. As for pop ups I agree thats a bad idea maybe a in game msg x has left the game to reopen press start and select yes. this way you can invite or vote at your convenience . |

Ok. This game is forbidden to me because I live in the third world country of Australia. For the despicable crime of living in this backwater hellhole, I should be banned from playing Dust 514 to prevent me from causing any difficulties to the Americans.
Unless of course I use my space magic to make Australian ISPs decent, lay thousands of kilometres of cabling, and buy my own house so I can hardwire my network into the landline I installed to my own ISP.
Gotcha.
Thanks for your support. |

Ya they should have a respawn or something in that case. If it reconnected you to the battle sounds like a bug for it won't let you play.
But I like the idea of building your own ISP and using space magic |

The games are very short lived and live. When you drop, for what ever reason, you are replaced almost instantly... And generally the game ends within 15 minute of starting... So if you disco and have to reconnect, that is almost 7 minutes out of a 15 minute battle.
EDIT: For the record, I don't have a problem with people being able to reconnect... Hell, they can do it now, I watched Damian's War do it twice last night. But again, these are very short lived and live battles... It is not fair to your teammates (especially right now) to make them wait while you re-connect... If you can before the battle ends to begin with. |

The dropouts I get usually last seconds. I'm not replaced, I'm still in game. I can see and hear the battle going on.
But I can only do 3 things:
press (x) and forfeit all SP and ISK from the match, and get booted to the title screen.
press L1 if I'm in a dropship to fly up
press L2 if I'm in a dropship to fly down
If I'm not killed then I can wait out the rest of the match, taking up a slot on my team but getting my SP and ISK.
If I'm killed then I can't respawn, so I still take up a slot on the team until the game eventually boots me for inactivity 10 minutes later. In this scenario I get nothing, AND I'm taking up space on the team.
YOU are missing the point.

I agree to some extent when we're talking about short-lived pub matches. But team-based conflict in critical do-or-die matches will become VERY important in DUST and EVE, and the assets committed to them will be significant - you may even be rendezvousing with Eve Orbital support at pre-determined times. The losses a corp or alliance could sustain because of dissconect could be large enough to make you physically ill. And a lot of teams will be using special loadouts with player skillsets developed around integrated teamplay, so losing a teammate to disconnect may leave you FUBARed as a Fleet, MCC or Field commander.
I think a painless and in-game-popup-less way to deal with disconnects is to have a pre-match popup that asks a couple of questions about team re-connect policy. Corps could even pre-configure these for different match types or different specialist teams.
What I REALLY don't want to see is commanders and teams nerfing their tactics and strategies because they have to accommodate disconnects. So long as the commanding officer retains the ability to hold or give up a merc's slot the system should be able to adapt to just about anything short of the Internet going down.

If the FC can't handle a disconnect or two then he's doing it wrong. But at the moment you can re-connect to a fight in progress in EVE, you can't in Dust, at least not playably. |

Agreed absolutely, Umallon. But in the future that FC will be dependent on the ground crew getting their part of the job done, so the inability to deal with Dust disconnects could make everything invested in the orbital battle worthless. |
