I wanna try EVERYTHING. I wanna try the basic versions of everything, but I mostly want to look in-depth on the WEIRD builds. Well there are two ways to think of builds. 1 is weapon centric, what the weapon is will define its role. So a Heavy with a shotgun is not much different from an assault or even a scout with a shotgun. Second is platform centric trying to fomulate a role best suited to the platform your throwing modules. For example If i got a tank what is the best way to make it 'tanky'. Answer Big guns, big defenses and unstoppability. Now onto you wanting to try everything basic need to also understand that the more advanced items are a bit more 'special' in thier own way and the small difference becomes big when applied for all the wrong reasons. for example a maxidamage fit HMG can tear a close ranged dropship apart easily. Thus this falls in your definition of 'weird' fits. Definitely a post deserving of a +1 right there.
You missed the third option though: Equipment-centric. I have builds that are centred around Repair Tools, or Drop Uplinks, or Nanohives, and everything in the build is there to support the equipment slot(s).
One of my current experiments is an AV Medic. Logi suit with Repair Tool, Nanohives, and Swarm Launcher. I'm only running Militia gear while I get used to it, but if it seems like it's working (initial results are promising, but it can only work with good teamates on mic), I'll be throwing AV grenades on an upgraded version. I also have a few surprisingly effective Shield-tanking Scout builds.
But that high-damage HMG as a Dropship counter is something I've already considered as a future experiment. Not really doing so well with Heavy or Assault suits though, so I've stuck with Scouts and Logis more than anything else. I've found that SMG/Pistol on a speed- and stamina-buffed Heavy is a good way to REALLY throw off enemy infantry though. |

Let me rephrase, option 1, Tool Centric since both equipment and weapons are tools. they make certain jobs easier, killing or healing people same difference under this catagory.
Another build I've seen was a duelist, An assault or logi suit with a scrambler pistol as thier primary and only weapon. Equipped with small weapon upgrades. That thing was dangerous at range and very hard to close in on. |

That thing was dangerous at range and very hard to close in on. Tried that. I'm not good enough at keeping enemies at range with the Pistol though, hence why my build went Heavy, and added the SMG for the really close work. |

skullduggery? Yes. But a lot of planning, and lot of time executing that plan to exact his revenge GÇô that is another thing that initially drew me to EVE besides its backstory and universe GÇô you can do anything you set your mind to with some planning and determination (and a little luck, but mostly the first two) Whether you want to be a line pilot fighting in a fleet, or a person commanding an alliance of many corporations working together GÇô or even a tycoon or industrialist, whatever floats your boat.
Dust will reward the players and corporations who plan for their future and have the will to power, imo. Even the dedicated ground soldier FPS player will be planning his builds based on his needs and playstyles, same for the tankers and pilots, or for the logistics players, and so on.
On the corporate level this expands to how the players involved operate in battle together as a unit, what contracts to take, what friends and allies to cultivate both in Dust and in EVE. On an Alliance level this expands again, as an individual Dust corporation may end up being part of an alliance as part of its ground combat arm (given that EVE and Dust players can be part of the same corporation we may well see many corporations and alliance eventually made up of both, with a fleet arm and a ground arm.)
As for myself, any corporation I am eventually a part of would automatically have the services of my EVE character Arkady Vachon GÇô who is set up right now primarily for manufacturing so that I could easily switch to making the tools that the guys on the ground need to keep fighting, and at a low cost.

Love the vid bud, added to the list.
And same here, except that I have my own little private carebear corp wich is part of an alliance already. Im also planning on supporting my dust through excesive mining and production. Although I might join a larger corp with my dust character. Not sure yet. |

Shamelesly bumping my own thread.
Im seeing that alot of people are starting to show their true colors. Its not weird, I have to be honest I havent been able to play the last 2 weekends due to vacation and RL things. As a EVE/CCP game I kinda expected that I would see it that way since im playing EVE just as casualy.
However I do believe this bump is needed since atm the forums are taking a turn for the worst and is starting to turn into a troll/flame forum. I'd hate to see that happen for *read main post for reasoning* .
Im going to rock this game again this weekend. And I can't wait for the august update.
And to those core test groups who play every weekend... Keep up the amazing work, I love you. Alot. |
