Well you shouldn't have, for two reasons.
1. 16 years of gaming is different from 16 years of life. 2. Regardless of age, he's made some good points. |

I wanna try EVERYTHING. I wanna try the basic versions of everything, but I mostly want to look in-depth on the WEIRD builds. Well there are two ways to think of builds. 1 is weapon centric, what the weapon is will define its role. So a Heavy with a shotgun is not much different from an assault or even a scout with a shotgun. Second is platform centric trying to fomulate a role best suited to the platform your throwing modules. For example If i got a tank what is the best way to make it 'tanky'. Answer Big guns, big defenses and unstoppability. Now onto you wanting to try everything basic need to also understand that the more advanced items are a bit more 'special' in thier own way and the small difference becomes big when applied for all the wrong reasons. for example a maxidamage fit HMG can tear a close ranged dropship apart easily. Thus this falls in your definition of 'weird' fits. Definitely a post deserving of a +1 right there.
You missed the third option though: Equipment-centric. I have builds that are centred around Repair Tools, or Drop Uplinks, or Nanohives, and everything in the build is there to support the equipment slot(s).
One of my current experiments is an AV Medic. Logi suit with Repair Tool, Nanohives, and Swarm Launcher. I'm only running Militia gear while I get used to it, but if it seems like it's working (initial results are promising, but it can only work with good teamates on mic), I'll be throwing AV grenades on an upgraded version. I also have a few surprisingly effective Shield-tanking Scout builds.
But that high-damage HMG as a Dropship counter is something I've already considered as a future experiment. Not really doing so well with Heavy or Assault suits though, so I've stuck with Scouts and Logis more than anything else. I've found that SMG/Pistol on a speed- and stamina-buffed Heavy is a good way to REALLY throw off enemy infantry though. |

That thing was dangerous at range and very hard to close in on. Tried that. I'm not good enough at keeping enemies at range with the Pistol though, hence why my build went Heavy, and added the SMG for the really close work. |
