as every1 seems intent on compairing 514 to MAG i must urge the dev's in CCP to find the old MAG forum & read how it all went wrong for the game.
i beta tested MAG & bought at the midnight release. the release game had small faults & glitches but was & would still be the greatest game ever made for ps3, the forums were alight every1 crying this is overpowered, that gun killed me 5 times in a row NERF it, that map is over powered. you would not believe what players cried about. slowly the nerf tank started rolling through. the devs began to change everything constant patches & weapon & map nerfs. as a result with every single patch the community began to leave bit by bit. by changing everything that made MAG great they had driven away their whole community & for about 3 months the game by its nature became useless as there simply not enough players to fill games. after a while a very small community formed & stayed put but it is a very small community compaired to the 500,000+ players for the first 8 months of release.
CCP devs must not make the mistakes zipper interactive made, ps3 gamers seem to think they know better than the men & women who created the game they are crying about & they will ***** & moan about everything. please ignore the cries & plea's for care bear patches & nerfs. YOU ARE MAKING THIS GAME & YOU KNOW BETTER. the complete self destruction of MAG is still availible on the old mag forums. pay attention to the common theme of crying for patches & then crying about the patches and then crying for new patches its all there.
i have high hopes for dust please please dont do a "MAG" & beta testers when the afore mentioned community gets here please do your best to shut them up. dont let it happen again.
Game rage is very common on ps3 & its community are vocal. |

He's basically saying let the developers be the judges. Instead of on MAG, where random bullet spread ruined it because of "over" accurate guns... Guns shooting where they were aimed... Was a problem.. Apparently |

Op has a good point though, devs have to be careful about how they handle community feedback, especially after release. If they aren't good at filtering out the noise and general crybabying from genuin feedback the game can suffer. Given that CCP has been successful with an MMORPG for so long though this is a skill they likely have in plentiful quantity. |

On Topic:
You know a good way for CCP to do just that, and be able to identify what is wrong with the game is to play it themselves, and from what I can tell they seem to actually play their games as I see them frequently toying around with EVE in their videos and playing it. Still I think CCP has a handle on it all. Maybe add a monacle to **** off the whiners, and adults.. I mean manchildren.
Still. I think in Zipper's case they just generally did not give a crap about MAG, and treated it poorly at every turn. The community was bad, but the real stake to the heart was DLC with extra game modes. The nail in the coffin was Zipper turning their back and turning the lights off for SOCOM4. Make of it what you will.
Off Topic:
Just for the sake pushing my statement from earlier... What have they got in there? King Kong?
Edit:
All communities cry obsessively over the most trivial of things. This is not exempt from any given community, genre, game, or platform. Every given community does so. Even the EVE community has and does. |

The community asked for recoil and got rbs. Give paying customers cheap knock off mechanics, and they'll go pay for a game with proper mechanics. Change core mechanics, change your game. MAG was destroyed because the shooting changed and everyone who had been a fan, lost interest. Oh and they shut the EU & Asian servers 2 months after release. Smart. Real smart. You know there's about a million threads to browse through on the MAG forums? |

+1 Those that argue that game didn't have faults (or few faults) are remembering with a bias. It's not so much that the launch version didn't need tweaking, just that zipper tweaked it wrong. Players asking for recoil and getting RBS, is one big example. |

CCP has become masters over time at tuning out the barrage of banter over the course of EVE online nearly 10 year lifetime. I highly doubt filtering out the garb suggestions/feedback will be a problem for them. |

Trouble is, he's RIGHT.
Kind of.
LIstening to the fans is all well and good, but there needs to be a "sanity check" in place.
1. Everyone screams "nerf X because it's OP" 2. Check if they're right - you're tracking stats, remember? Is everyone using a weapon? It's probably OP. Is everyone being killed by it in disproportionate measure to the amount of people using it? It's probably OP. 3. Sanity check: WITHOUT using that weapon, are people getting kills quickly and reliably enough? If so, nerf it. If not, BUFF EVERYTHING ELSE.
If you're nerfing EVERYTHING when it looks OP, you end up breaking the game.
I never played enough of MAG to say for sure if this was a problem, but there HAVE been games that did it. World of Warcraft goes through phases where this is happening, and the OP gear ends up NOT being actually overpowered, but less UNDERpowered than everything else. Then they release a new tier of OP gear for everyone to complain about, and all is once again right in Azeroth. Or something. I haven't played much WoW either, I just have a few friends who are addicts. |

Every game is it own. People love that Battlefield/Dice listen to they fans. One of the reason Batllefield 3 is doing amazing right now. That's a fun game. So yall want CCP to not listen to the fans? lmao |

The reason CCP does well with EVE and why i'm not worried in the least about Dust is because CCP does listen. Now i don't know this for certain but it really does seem like CCP digs into complaints that they hear often about games and after doing enough research and figuring out the root of the problem they come up with the best possible solution for that problem.
Another reason they do so well is because they know its the internet and 90% of forum posters are actually ********. |

I completely aggree with OP. We can only speak out of personal experience which is very limited and gives by no means a complete picture. I want them them to take our opinions and ideas in consideration, but there's a big difference between what we say we want and what we actually want.
And, let's face it, there's a lot of people (possibly myself included) who should just keep their stupid ideas to themselves. |
