I got into a thrid round of Beta Testing this weeked. There are a few key issues that I would like to address in this topic. Some may be issues that have already been discussed by me or someone else, but I think they are issues that need to be reviewed again before game launch.
1) The number one issue I've had during testing this weekend is with the dropships. Players will fly them to an altitude high above the map where they are safe from rockets or small arms. They will simply bombard players on the map with missles and you can't reach them unless you've got another good pilot on your team. What's even more frustrating is that players will ram infantry units on the ground instantly killing them while the dropship takes little or no damage. Realistically, if you flew an airship into the ground at high speed, the impact would either destory or severely damage it. Therefore, to prevent players from ramming infantry with a dropship, I would make it so that the dropship receives a large amount of damage, or is destroyed by ramming in into the ground.
2) Give a player a Shotgun, and Scout Dropsuit with high skill level and what do you get? God mode is the correct answer. Players with Scout Dropsuits and Breach Shotguns with increased ammo/reload simply run circles around any other class on the field and kill you in one or two shots. I bought a level I Scout Dropsuit, a low level shotgun and I was able to kite or jump around to toy with other players and kill them at my leisure. I suggest decreasing the overall damage of the shotgun and reduce the speed of the Scouts by 25%.
3) The Heavy is supposed to be an anti-infantry unit, but it's severely outmatched by players in Scout or Assault Dropsuits. Something needs to be done for the Heavy to compensate for players using suits with high speed and Shotguns. What's the point of having the biggest gun with the most ammo when other players can run circles around you and kill you with two to threee shots even with all that armor?

I agree with you on that. I tried to play as heavy but even if I am in a good position (which is hard for heavy) I can't even destroy a scout unless he is not paying attention. |

Actually, scouts running around a Heavy suit sounds about right. All of that armor weighs you down, and a heavy machine gun isn't really one of the more lightweight guns that would let you turn.
This is actually an example of one of the greatest things in this game - counters. Scouts use their speed to compensate for their tank, while the Heavy trades speed for more tank. Heavies can eat a lot of bullets and HMG's are deadly at mid-range or in CQC, but if that scout manages to close the distance, you're boned, and it's designed that way.
EDIT; Also, keep in mind that this particular map isn't really HMG-friendly. There is almost no CQC action, so heavies are at a disadvantage here, since they lack the type of environment that lets them play to their strengths. This wide-open map suits Scouts well. |

Heavy dropsuits are more of a support role, with the majority of heavy weapons specialised for anti-vehicle. currently heavys are regarded as weak to overly cumbersom as there is little teamwork happening. learning to utilise each suits strengths will aloow you to counter thier weaknesses. a 5 man AV squad is lethal, 2 heavys with AV weapons, 2 logi with AR and a sniper is a winning combo when the whole squad is on coms and working together. |

The Heavy can be kitted out for anti-infantry AREA DENIAL, or for anti-vehicle.
Who told you it's meant to be anti-infantry? |

maybe dropships could be given a ground effect simulation.
"Ground effect often gives pilots and/or passengers of light aircraft the feeling that the aircraft is "floating", especially when landing "
now for a dropship that means a unstable flight until a certain ALT is reached, they use propulsion units and that a lone would cause updrafting with eddy currents, changing the dynamics of low ground level flight when in close proximity. So instead of just ploughing around into players, pilots would have to totaly focus upon the flight dynamics, you should also not be able to recover from certain instances?
weapons could be used to disable fight gyros, disrupt propulsion units ( say 25% - 50% drop in marked throttle power output) |
