I guess most of us have seen the trailer where a merc run and slide into cover, so i wanted to ask if anyone knows of a Dev saying anything about covering mechanics? Was it confirmed, demented or was nothing said by Devs so far regarding it? (I know its not in the beta right now just wondered) |

No covering mechanics. EVER. Please.
I've made a request thread for sliding though. Would be cool to do that at least.

No, there will most probably not be cover mechanics. A slide mechanic is likely. |

Sadly CCP has abandoned their ability to make game videos using only ingame footage. Now a lot of it is animation showing things that will never be in the game (Anyone remember the squirtgun killing a billion minnie cap ships. Sad days) |

There are cover mechanics.
Objects block projectiles. Stand/crouch behind a hill/wall/tank/whatever, and you have cover from things on the other side of it.
That's all the cover mechanics anyone should want or need in FPS gameplay. A snap-to-cover system is a bad idea for almost every FPS game that ever had one, and not much better in the majority of TPS games with them either. |

This.
Cover mechanics belong in TPS....maybe. I've never been a fan though. |

What you are referring to, was not ever illuded to being in game footage. It was a scene out of the book, EVE: Empyrean age when the Amarr fleet used stolen Jovian weapon technology to destroy the Elder fleet above Vak' Atioth. This was a major event in the Empyrean War which is what the name of the expansion was. So they decided to take scenes out of the book/lore and bring them to life on the screen. Another example of this was the coronation of Empress Jamyl Sarum, which I think was in that same teaser with the exploding minni caps. As well as the Elder fleet attacking concord HQ, also a scene out of the book. None of which used game play footage nor were we ever told it was.
Btw I highly suggest reading EVE: Empyrean Age, EVE: A Burning Life (I think it is), and EVE: Templar One ( I am currently reading).
All really good books if you are into EVE, reading, sci fi thrillers. I really wish a movie were made out of Empyrean age and Templar One. Would make a great movie or tv series. |

Lots of First person shooters have had cover mechanics take Rainbow 6 Vegas and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 for example those two did great but as for dust 514 with the varying landscapes and sloping areas I think It would take ages to desgn cover systems for all the possible places of combat. |

i know this cover mechanic very well, i thought of it more as a cosmetic thing (except for sliding maybe) as i doubt that people would be constantly looking at the wall walking sideways while in a firefight. |

Quote:take Rainbow 6 Vegas and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 for example You mean two games where the biggest flaws they had were their cover mechanics? Great examples!
More seriously though, they were exceptions to the usual rule of FPS games with cover mechanics. They're usually terrible instead of just vaguely annoying. |

I never played an FPS with a cover mechanic online, though I did play some with good cover mechanics in the singleplayer. Why are people so quick to reject it? can someone explain with something besides "no"? Is it just the usual resistance to new things? It would be hard to implement cover zones in generated maps, but many aspects are reused in all maps; things like the outposts, random boxes, and other stuff. These things can be made to have first-person cover functions.
Sliding should definitely be implemented. |

I like covering mechanics. Anyone ever play Gears of War multiplayer? Mass Effect 3? More realistic and adds a tactical element to the game.

No?
I wonder why.
Also, if you want to compare to TPS games, DUST feels more War for Cybertron than Gears or ME3.
Different gameplay style, different mechanics. |
