I THANK CCP for making the weapons wheel slightly more distinctive than the command controls. I haven't accidently done a command instead of changing to a weapon since the e3 build luanched. I'm not often a squad leader, so it's rare I get to play with this control scheme.
THAT SAID! IT's really hard to do the command functions on purpose at the moment. 1) It will say invalid target after you que command a lot more often then it should.... I mean you got to hit the target with the precision of a sniper rifle with the qued command for it to work, in that it seemed like you had to be line of sight, even if you could see the icon on the hud, and line up with it. (sidenote, produced a lot of invalid commands, but I think I messed up in believing an attack order on a letter objective was valid... I probably should have looked for a capture command, but didn't spend too much time on other functions, I can get better at that part.) Anyways, I think the accuracy box should be a little more forgiving than it currently is, for using the command functions, and you should be able to execute a command on a icon viewable on your hud, and not just when the thing is in direct line of sight. (As it's issuing of orders, not applying fire directly on the target yourself.)
Second, the way the current controls work, you can't issue those commands from inside a vehicle. I tried from a dropship and couldn't get passed the modual menu. I might not have been squad commander by that time in battle anymore, or by getting in the vehicle I may have surrendered that role, or someone came into the game late that for whatever the system grades on outranked me, but see that's an interesting occurance I didn't expect to have happen.
Also, I tried to see if there AN EASIER was a way to issue commands from the tatical map/neocom during battle, and it didn't seem like it was an option. I couldn't get passed the regular neocom menu. But, if you could do it, like one normally does in MAG it could be a GREAT TOOL for field commanders.Maybe this item is already in place, if it is, I just haven't figured out how to get past the regular neocom yet. But, I figure commands would get issued a lot more often, if the whole system was a bit more intuitive, after all by not doing so, we are giving up XP bonuses for issuing and following orders. |
