Being a Mercenary on Dust 514 is fun and basically one of the only things you can do so if you arent good at it your in trouble! I've set up this quick quide for newbies to the game.
RULE 1- Choose Your class that is for you
If you prefer to be a scout or flying a dropship there is no real reason why you should be a heavy likewise if you like to cause some serious damage become a heavy.
Assault- For those who like to be on the frontline and get dug in to the battle. Heavy- Destroy vehicles, crush infantries and cause some damage. Scout- For those who like to flank the enemy and snipe from a distance. Logistics- Hackers and those who like to steal intel/heal the squad. Pilot- For finatics of vehicles and prefer to use the big toys rather than little guns. Commander- Someone who can lead and support the squad only for pros and born warriors.
RULE 2- Get the right equipment and skills
Constanty check your skills via your character sheet and according to your class/equipment upgrade them. Also make sure you can keep the equipment you have in stock nothing looks worse than a merc who ends up with the worse equipment in the game mid battle. Consider whether the item is purchased through AUR or ISK. AUR costs money via your psn account so on the long run can be quite costly if you want to up keep it but its a personal choice.
RULE 3- Dont accept second best
In the EVE universe you have many financial opportunities its important you demand the right price if an EVE corp isnt paying the right price find someone who does and make them regret not paying you. Your battles decide the fate of the universe.
RULE 4- Fight well
If you cant fight then you'll have a short life on Dust 514 some good strategies include: -Flanking enemies -Strength in numbers, stay close to allies -Piggy back on vehicles use them as transport -Stay close to HAV's they can provide great support nearby -Cover is important so you are not knocked out straight away
Hope you succeed in the EVE universe and remember your the one taking the shots so make each one count. |

I was under the impression Logistics also handled healing and support via nanohives and the like. Am I mistaken? I got my Minmatar Logistics Suit and I'm workin' towards that armor-healing Nanohive... or am I better off running Assault and packing a hive with me to be more of a combat medic? |

I'm just going by your comparison,
Scout- For those who like to flank the enemy and snipe from a distance. Logistics- Hackers and those who like to steal intel/sabotage.
I figure the Scout is more the sort to be the one to move in quick and do the hacking and such, but I also haven't actively looked for either suit that potentially boosts hack speed. The Logistics suit I bought can fit a remote spawn, a nanohive, and the revive stim. Though from the looks of the upper-end nanohives, I'm definitely going to have to drop -something- because it's like twice the equip costs for the armor-repairing hive. @_@ |

You can restock within a battle. This is true. But it does take time to do so. Always best if you can make sure to not have to do it mid battle.

I'm earning isk faster than I spend it and have plenty of aur still as most load outs don't cost much but I guess it's possible some might not be in that situation. |

Scouts are fast.
Logis carry more stuff.
A Scout makes a good medic because they can get in, patch you up, then get out again. Logistics makes a good medic because they can fix more people before having to resupply. And a Heavy makes a good medic because they can tank a lot of damage while distracted by the "stabbing people with needles" part of the job.
Stop thinking of the suits as "classes" - And Scouts aren't all about distance and sniping, either. I do CQC better than long-range with my AP Scout builds. |
