The only thing I hate about dropships currently is how people can jump out of them once they have taken max damage and forced to ground.
If you were in the ship when the last shot was placed you should either go down with the ship or it should explode in the sky. Its a bit crap when u've landed your 3rd forge gun hit on a dropship and only get 60 points for the ship destruction as the 7 people inside all bailed out AFTER the dropship was 'dead'. |

A better idea would be if they have a chance of exploding in midair and if they do you die inside, if not, you can bail out.
Oh wait, thats how it works now.

And dude, why would you post this in another thread, and then make a new thread.
Lets all try to keep the forums clean and tidy.
You made your point in the "Dropships are Overpowered" thread, why make a new one just for this? |

Except that's not how it works. If it's not on absolute ground (as in, in the sky or resting on a pipe, building, or tower), it either has to fall to the ground or is purely on a timer until death. Everyone inside can escape before that timer runs out, and no amount of damage will cause it to explode beforehand. |

Its random, sometimes you explode and die in midair when the vehicle gets to 0 health.
I fly dropships, I have died in single shots from forge guns while high above the ground and wondered what happened. I didn't fall to the ground first, I just died.
I don't think it happens very often, but it happens. |

I have never seen this happen, and I've shot hundreds of dropships out of the sky and on structures. If it's not touching the real, sandy ground at the time, it has never blown up immediately. |

Gunners can die in the air to clear things up. However, the dropship does land or collide with something before exploding. |

This discussion is a different topic to "Dropships are Overpowered" and although it had a place as input for that thread it seemed a new topic would be relevant specifically addressing the issue.

As stated, "I dont think it happens very often, but it happens."
Dropships have fuel tanks and they are being hit by missiles and what ever it is forge guns fire. In reality the likelyhood is that the ship would explode midair. At the very least this could to with rebalancing so that it explodes midair 80% or the time or something. If not we may as well be throwing sticks and stones at dropships rather than things that actually explode!
Anyway, reality aside, the current mechanics create an imbalance in the game. Whilst in a dropship you effectively have 2 lives - one whilst your raining hell down via the dropship, and the second when you bail out to continue on foot.
You will always have the option to bail out of the dropship once it comes underfire but the destruction of the dropship should be more condemning to those onboard as it is with all other vehicles. |

I've actually been wondering about this. I noticed that I've shot down many drop ships but not a single one exploded in mid-air.
Hmm, I'd be inclined to agree that there must be some exploding assurance depending on the type of weapon that landed the killing blow. I mean, I don't think I would expect a drop ship to explode on impact if I was gunning the things down with ARs. But I'll be damned if a drop ship didn't explode on impact if it got blasted by people using SWARM Launchers or a Forge Gun. Just feels... odd. |

I'm pretty sure that has to do with well-placed shots. I've shot a number of gunners out of dropships without hitting the dropship in the process. They don't die as a result of the dropship dying, though. |

They do? How do you know its not Fuel Cells, or capacitors, or quantum wave energy or something else non explosive?

When a HAV is just about to be destroyed, you can jump out and survive. We all know when we are about to die, its a choice we make.
So you don't have 2 lives, you just usually have a little longer to make the decision, just like real life pilots can hit the ejection seat but an LAV driver in real life usually can't get out in time.
And I have died instantly as a pilot when the DS was destroyed many times. I fly a lot more often, but I do die in an aerial fireball fairly often.
Why do you hate Dropships so much?

I like this idea.
Explosive ammo causes the DS to explode in mid air killing everyone aboard.
Penetration ammo causes engine malfuntions and the DS crashes, letting mercs bail out and keep fighting.
Some small percentage of penetrating shot kills should cause catastrophic malfunctions resulting in explosions (like 5%) |

Greetings,
Traynor Youngs wrote:Its random, sometimes you explode and die in midair when the vehicle gets to 0 health. It seems like it has to go past zero HP. As I stated in another thread, this is why I tend to have to overkill with my AV weapons. I can knock some DS out of the sky, however rarely do I get the kill message about the pilot / passengers. Instead I will get the two damage messages, watch the pilot / passengers parachute to safety and then get the ship destruction when it impacts the ground... Having said that though, if I fire an extra volley that hits before it connects with the ground, I can sometimes kill the pilot / passengers before the DS hits the ground. Please note that with people starting to get into the more advanced DS this is becoming harder and harder to do.
Kiso Okami wrote:Hmm, I'd be inclined to agree that there must be some exploding assurance depending on the type of weapon that landed the killing blow. I really like that idea, but the question then becomes what is the Forge Gun? Swarms and turret missiles are the only things that cause the explosion, so while Forge guns could still bring them down, it would pretty much ensure that the pilot / passengers could parachute to safety. |

I like that idea as is. Maybe the pilot should die once it reaches max damage, but all passengers should have the chance to bailout. |
