While playing today i recognised the inconvinience that HAV gets stopped by a latern. I tried it out on other thing like railings and its everywhere the same. This really sucks. I also found out that there absolutly no tracks after driving even with a tank.
So what I d like to have a little bit more realistic enviroment. The containers staying around should be moveable or even destuctable, latterns and railing should break if you crash them and objectives should leave footprints behind them. |

I think SOME objects in the environment should be destructible.
Lamp-posts being one of the more obvious "really?" examples. |

I tried it on laterns, railings, those barrikades and tank traps. If you are slow you are just stucking and if you are fast the tank drives onto it and sometimes dont get back down anymore. You can try it.

IIRC, the game engine itself doesn't support de-formable terrain. That would mean that each destructible item would have to be spawned in and managed throughout the life of the battlefield or until destroyed. CCP's servers could handle that without issue, but the PS3 may have problems tracking all of them.

There have been many times when I've been retreating in my tank from that crossroads area heading south, shooting behind me as I go. Suddenly WHAM, I stop dead and take a good deal of armor damage. Cause? The lamp post I could probably kick over in my genetically enhanced and augmented clone.
For shipping containers, maybe, depending on what it would cost in system resources. But lamp posts? Most certainly should be destructible. |

I don't know about everyone else, but my PS3 is starting to spend a lot of time with the fans on as it is while playing Dust.

In BF3 nearly everything is destructable so there wouldnt be problems to make a some small laterns or railings destroyable. |

Agree that some things should be destructible, or taken out altogether, I am not sure what the lampposts are adding to the battlefield in the middle of the day, maybe during night it would be good.
But, please remember that just because X game could do it, doesn't mean that every game after should be able to do that. There are always tradeoffs. It may not be an issue for BF, but this game is going to have 25km^2 battlefields, thats the area of ALL of Grand Theft Auto games, and if you could create craters by shooting the ground, then there would be TONS of assets to render in 3D.
ANd think about what would happen when you orbital strike the towers if they were destructible. I agree it would be epic to drop towers down on people by orbital striking them, but the resources to do it well are probably beyond the limits of what we can expect at launch.
Perhaps at expansion. I am sure they have MOAR destruction on their timeline somewhere. |

BF3 uses Frostbite 2, Dust uses the Unreal Engine. One supports destructible terrain, one does not. Also in console BF3 the most players in a match is 24. |

Destructible objects are fun and all, but not really necessary. Since the Unreal engine doesn't really support it, its not that much of a priority in my opinion. |
