If you get killed your equipment "rusts" after a few second and everything is gone.

So whats about letting the weapon/mag and a part of the armor there that players can pick it up and use them to repair their armor and refill their ammo. It could take about 3 seconds to get the amoo and about 10 seconds to mend the armor plates.
This would be usefull due to the fact that the armor repairer module repairs very slowly and most dropsuits have too less PG/CPU to build it additional to other modules.

Backstory says that when a clone is killed, their gear is consumed by nanites.

It's deliberate destruction to prevent enemies from stealing your stuff.

There is a section on the after-action screen for salvage though, so they might add something to this effect, just not during a round. Also, there are armor repair modules that repair faster at higher skill levels, as well as dropsuits with more CPU/PG, again, at higher skill levels.

So, in summary, your gear will suck until you put some time in.

Why aren't my modules destroyed in EVE when my ship dies, then?

Because that's Eve, you're in a spaceship in that game, there's obviously some lore limitation as to how these nanites would work on the large scale.

This is Dust 514, you're not in a super massive spaceship.

 The more you know.

Smallest ships in eve are barely larger than a dropship. They still drop stuff.

Ships in EVE dont get eaten by nanites because they are no clones.

Why aren't my modules destroyed in EVE when my ship dies, then? Because DUST Mercs operate on a different scale, and EVER pilots don't use nanites to obliterate their ships like DUST Mercs do to their (much smaller) Dropsuits.

Kind of like how the two cloning systems are based on different versions of the technology. EVE clones don't work the same way DUST clones do.

EDIT: That's just the lore-based explanation though.

 Want a gameplay-related one instead?

If you could scavenge for what you want, support players (heard of "nanohives" yet?) would be less important.

 Greetings,

Awiergan Snowcash wrote:Smallest ships in eve are barely larger than a dropship. They still drop stuff. Ummm. No, the smallest ship in EVE is massive compared to dropships. IIRC the smallest shuttle is 5,000m3 That is orders of magnitude larger than the 30ish m3 of a Dropship.

No, Garret is correct. The EVE / Dust lore states that the nanites that create / build your clone and gear consume it when your clone deactivates.

The EVE / Dust lore states that the nanites that create / build your clone and gear consume it when your clone deactivates. Its 500m3 packed... or 8*8*8 worth of matter. Shuttles are mostly hollow.
