So I am a dropship pilot, and I am thoroughly enjoying how they handle. I also enjoy dropping down and squishing stationary enemies (friendly fire needs to be turned on for this, currently I can land on my teammate and enemy at the same time and my teammate is fine. That's what makes roadkilling unbalanced.). The biggest problem I see with the dropship is you cannot be shot and killed out of the air. If someone destroys your dropship, it doesn't blow up. It goes crashing down to the ground giving the occupants more than enough time to jump out and live. If someone kills the dropship, it should instantly blow up and kill everyone inside. |

I like the crashing. I think when the dropship is initially "destroyed" all occupants should take damage, but not necessarily be killed instantly. Then it falls out of the sky, and on impact, anyone still inside dies. |

The problem is that it is rare for people to do enough damage to achieve this effect. Most Forge Gunners or Swarmers will only fire enough rounds to take the dropship out of the air... Personally, I try very hard to achieve the overkill, but it means that I am usually using 3+ Swarm Launcher rounds per dropship. :(

Maybe CCP could set criteria for a dropship crashing vs exploding. In other words, If the hit that takes down the dropship is just enough to drop it out of the sky by just surpassing it's remaining hit points then occupants should have time to bail out as it crashes. On the other hand if the final blow is well above the dropship's remaining health, like a hit from a forge fun for example, then it should exlpode and kill everyone onboard. |

I've been meaning to bring this up too. Apart from the times I've shot one of the gunners in the face instead of hitting the dropship directly, I've never seen an attack on the dropship kill the passengers. If it does have this kind of overkill effect, it needs to be lowered a lot so it happens more frequently. The other vehicles don't get a free pass to exit unharmed.
Also, this doesn't only happen while it's in the air. I've shot a number of dropships while they're in the usual camping spots and had them just sit there on fire for 5-10 secs before blowing up (even hitting them with another 2 full railgun shots sometimes after kill damage has been applied), allowing the campers to safely exit and continue what they were doing with their guns instead. |
