Plus I'd imagine CCP want to weed out random mainstream gamers who won't realise Beta = unfinished product. Imagine if EVERYONE played unfinished products, you'd lose a lot of customers. Apart from making money, paying for Beta access means you a serious about it, and will actively participate rather than go "crap graphics cba". Not to mention, if you pay for the Beta, you basically get a gamepack now, and after release, kind of like a upgrade pack or something, you know? And who could forget how bad BF3 Beta was on console?
But your argument still has some validity, I didn't wanna pay either, but Dust is the perfect shooter for me (in concept) Skytt Syysch wrote:Killface Rodeo wrote:Why was this not free to PS+ members? Because for $20, you purchased the equivalent of a $20 purchase worth of in-game currency (aurum), and got several other items on top of that. All of which will be credited to your account upon the release of the final game. Beta access was also included. Nobody said you had to purchase it, and if you wanted beta access for free, you could have waited until they offered access for free, or signed up on the beta registration site. You're missing a major point of Killface Rodeo's here, Skytt and Commander Xtreme. Killface is already a paying member of Playstation+, this provides him access to certain perks, free games, full game demos, and as he mentions, sometimes free beta access. What happened is that for him to continue to participate in the Dust 514 beta, he had to pay on top of his Playstation+ subscription for the Merc Pack. His argument is that he doesn't appreciate this and feels that Playstation+ users should be provided with access to the beta as part of the perks they are provided with the PS+ service.
This is not an unreasonable argument and CCP Games would do well to coordinate with Playstation+ rather than burn users like Killface Rodeo. Commander Xtreme, your argumentation here is especially weak in trying to defend CCP's methods in this area, as Playstation+ users are already a weeded out population from the so-called mainstream gamers, reducing the risk of permitting them into the beta from tarnishing the image of the game before release. Not to mention, it's unlikely even a majority of PS+ users will become aware of the deal, and even if they do, that they will participate in it. |
