I get what you are saying, but it is a CLOSED Beta - and on top of that, they did give out codes. Plus I'd imagine CCP want to weed out random mainstream gamers who won't realise Beta = unfinished product. Imagine if EVERYONE played unfinished products, you'd lose a lot of customers. Apart from making money, paying for Beta access means you a serious about it, and will actively participate rather than go "crap graphics cba". Not to mention, if you pay for the Beta, you basically get a gamepack now, and after release, kind of like a upgrade pack or something, you know? And who could forget how bad BF3 Beta was on console?
But your argument still has some validity, I didn't wanna pay either, but Dust is the perfect shooter for me (in concept) |

Paran Tadec wrote:Unfortunately in recents years all betas are really just demos of a finished game. Dust514 is a true beta. HTFU. And this quote above is also correct, this is testing ground - literally. Think of the WoW Alpha & Pre-Alpha. Don't think this is nearly a finished piece of work, CCP want Dust to be as good as EVE. |

Killface Rodeo wrote: This is bad business. You are also going to leave a bad taste in people's mouths with this method. Some people don't understand why you can only play on the weekends, or why it looks and plays like ****, even though it's still in beta. I know your goal is to get a dedicated fanbase like eve and have microtransactions be your bread an butter in your free-to-play, pay-to-win game. Though, you are cutting yourselves off from a huge market of more casual types, that don't go into forums or deal with the gaming community ( I guess I really don't blame them.) You have already lost potential players (customers).
That is a fantastic point aswell, but CCP aren't mainstream Devs. They aren't making Dust for casual gamers, they are NOT making it mainstream - its free, who makes a free mainstream game? Whilst your point does make sense, its not valid - CCP don't want market shares, they wanna make Dust & EVE players interact, nothing that EVE players are hardly mainstream |

Killface Rodeo wrote:This is PAYING TO TEST THE GAME. Not just a beta... I have never payed to play a beta until now... Why was this not free to PS+ members? Only people that are serious about the game are going to invest any time in writing up bugs or even use the forums. I am so put off at this method that I seriously do not feel like I can say anything positive or even aid their efforts in testing this game. Pay-to-test, free-to-play, pay-to-win. Can I get a dev or production response as to why this is pay-to-test? Why this was not made available to PS+ members for free? "Oh just anyone would join" is not a good answer. I am seriously regretting supporting your company. This isnt a paid Beta - it was a SMALL SCALE Beta, it had to be. The option for paying not only entitles you to a DLC, but is a way for players who REALLY wanna play, who dont access to be able to play. Imagine how people would be upset if it was invite only, with NO work around. |

This is NOT eve, seriously, it is not. I don't buy the whole "this game wasn't made for mainstream". Well, no ****... but that doesn't take away from the fact that a potential hardcore and paying player like myself is already put off by their method. I don't see much progress will be made using this strategy.
Your argument is based on "I HAD to pay" - if that was the case, I would support you. But you didn't HAVE to pay, you couldv've skipped the Beta. |

JokerLS240 wrote:I just want to add that the statement "pay-to-win" is incorrect. CCP is working to make all items (of their respective classes: standard, advanced, Aurum-bought, etc.) equal. They have openly stated that there will not be a potential for players to use Aurum to gain an unfair advantage over those who worked to purchase items with ISK and built up their skills over time.
Also, if you had attended the E3 even in Home, you could have unlocked a chance to win a free beta code in the Dust514 Home space. Don't mean to go off topic, but I'm new to PS3 - you can watch E3 in home?! |
