SMGs are a Primary not a Secondary weapon. |

SMGs are automatic weapons with short barrels that fire pistol cartidges. If your primary weapon is a launcher that shoots 4 rockets at a time, then a SMG is a sidearm. |

Agree on that set up
but, a bit odd i can have an AR and an SMG
if i can do that I should be able to have an AR and a shotgun, which I dont think I can. Shotguns seem to have got bigger, whilst SMG's got smaller in the future...

An Uzi is an SMG., and could fit in a shoulder holster. I would say that they've got SMGs and machine pistols confused, but the magazines are too big for MPs. |

Yes, Machine Pistols are completely different and for Balance reasons they were even sub-grouped into SMGs.
The damage rates for SMGs in dust beta really makes them a Primary weapon. |

It may be strange to have SMGs as sidearms, but I don't see how its a balance issue, in fact I like it this way. |

I could see them adjusting CPU/PG values though to make the cost difference between the two a bit more noticable. |

I don't know about others, but I tend to be forced out of my sniper rifles a lot in order to take objectives (that should otherwise be taken by people who spend 5 minutes nearby and ignore the objective). In those kind of situations, I can't just use the sniper to fight back and I often find myself away from the drop suit units.
Carrying the SMG along with the sniper allows me to stay somewhat effective while the distance between the enemy and myself is not beneficial to my main weapon of choice. |

riddle me this. if the smg was a primary, would you ever use it? the answer is no. ARs are better. straight up better. hands down. |

exactly, my point being that it is perfectly fair for smg's to be counted as sidearms. |

I use my smg as my primary, but I do this because I want a different light weapon in the primary slot ( ie mass driver or swarm launcher ). Sure an ar player can carry an smg, but he has to strain his cpu/pg in order to do that, but that's all in player preference and choice. The smg's can beat the ar's, but are not statically better than ar's, and obviously there's the range issue. As buzz said, if the smg was a primary then they would be almost useless. |
