I was watching this video of the last beta weekend and what really caught my eye was the performance. I'm currently running a 60gb launch PS3 and while the new build significantly improved my performance from the old build, it's nowhere near that video. Texture pop-in is a lot more rampant, it takes longer to load HQ textures, and I have a lot more hiccups in regular gameplay.
I realize you guys are by no means at a polishing stage yet with DUST, I just hope you keep it in mind that older PS3s are having a tough time with DUST. |

I'm not UE3 engine expert, but I think it tries to cache stuff on the hard drive, if you have a small hard drive or little free space left, it won't be able to cache everything it needs and has to reload some textures more often. My hard drive is pretty much filled up, and I can't delete anything to test this theory, but I seem to recall hearing that explanation for a few UE3 games with a lot of texture pop-in. |

I don't really have anything on my PS3 harddrive. I barely use the thing outside of playing DUST. Haven't even turned it on since Dark Souls came out. |

A high speed, low latency internet connection goes a long way. Last month I had to use my cell phone as the internet, though it were 2-3 Mbit, the latency were 2-300ms at best. DUST were nearly unplayable, and even the menus were sluggish. My internet is fixed now, and though I'm only at 20Mbit, the latency to the server is down to 25-40 ms. Menus were still sluggish on the old build, but still better.
My old fat PS3 60GB (EU 1st gen) performs as well as the one in the video (though I'm not that bad at shooting). The only thing not stock on my PS2 is the harddisk, I replaced the 60GB 5400 RPM drive with a faster 400GB 7200 RPM drive. I have no idea if that affects DUST. The PS3's internal SATA bus is only a SATA1. I don't know if they updated that on the PS3 slim. |

What an absolute idiot. The NDA is there for a reason. Showing off an unfinished product and complaining about it is a great way to discourage people from playing the finished game that has all that fixed. Especially small stupid things like zoom levels or running. |

And from the first part of his video description, he pretty much take credit for getting the CCP Devs to improve the Beta build, as if they were resisting. |

hmmm i too think that a faster harddrive might have a positive effect regarding texture loading. Namely SSD Drives might be a good way (Although i do not know if there are any supported SSD out there). I was playing with the idea to get a SSD for my PS3 (or if i had loads of money at my personal disposition: A new PS3 with a SSD dedicated to Dust 514) to shorten loading times etc. but the horrible amount of data of it prevents me from doing it till now. . . Dont want to have to redownload all those games and themes and avatars *shudder* |
