this is making me hate the game, they're just running around ramming you, and there is nothing you can do about it, if a ship rams the ground it should self destruct. This has to end. |

I agree, but if they put it in like u suggest it would create a very fine line as to what is and is not ramming. Upsetting a lot of people who just flew in to land a little to quick and blew up.
Players should just not be killed by a manned ship. I say manned, because I still think it should be used as a tackle way to take someone out, but this way you know the pilot has ejected. |

Naw, maybe it should cause both shield and armor damage to make the move a little more risky, but, come on.

the problem is that if your a pilot and nobody wants to ride gunner for you you only have 2 choices : Park on top of a building and spam rockets or try and smash people. What pilots need is something that they can make a living off of that helps their team that they can do by themselves; like healing other vehicles or people or a passive stat boost for teamates around you or something. Maybe make the spotlight able to tag enemies for the large batteries to take out idk.
Easy fix for crushing tho would be to make vehicles slamming into the ground past a certian speed do massive damage/ blow up their vehicle and make vehicle suicide a double negative score wise so if you try and squish and fail you loss 2 kills worth of points
Might be a little heavy handed but as a full time pilot myself i think its needed; dropships are currently being used in the cheessiest way possible |

From my experience, drop ship kills in this manner do not give the pilot a kill credit or any war points.
Im not so annoyed by PK by Drop ship, im kinda miffed that randomly the RDV will drop my vehicles on my head. I am occasionally being killed by my own RDV's its embarrassing. |

I don't think dropships should explode when they touch the ground, thats a little ridiculous thinking the entire point of them is to land and let people hop in for transport or as gunners.
But the ease with which they can kill people is a little ridiculous. It can also look a bit stupid when your in a hard to reach area and you just see a drop ship slowly dragging its self along the ground trying to reach you for an easy kill.
I think maybe they should try and work it out so that you die if then slam on top of you at a high speed, as in they physically fall on you out of the sky (say if they explode and the remains land on you) But when there just trailing along the ground intentionally trying to splat you, it should probably just push you along with it. |

i gotta admit i do this sometimes, when you hit the ground your shields take dmg , then rep while you are lining up your next squish, maybe the answer is to make ground collision damage deal dmg straight to armour instead of shields, just an idea |

What pilots need is a gunship, and ramming ability needs to stop, and they need to have a 'quick drop' option that literally puts the ship in AI mode and drops it to land. Can players be crushed? Yes, but your dropship will take as much damage AND ALL ITS OCCUPANTS as when two tanks crash head on, to put it simply, not pleasant and that **** will stop quick. |

your all a bunch of pansies.
i am a good pilot and i pride myself in my 20:4 squishs/deaths ratio.
heres my setup incase your wondering.
i have 4 different dropshis. the original one, a 2x nanfibered /sheild tanked viper, max armor tanked gorgon max sheild tank 3x nanofiber gorgon.
out of all of these so far the best has been the viper good balance of speed/tanking.
i purchased the militia vehicles and have been fitting them with militia gear specifically to crush people as much as i can.
Reasons i am doing this.
Drop ship pilot has No Defenses at all. Drop ship pilot has hard time finding gunner. Most gunners are not good. doing a bombing/strafing run to avoid getting hit does no damage, staying still while gunner shoots causes too much attention and i die fast.
now going in with the dropship and DROPPING on yoru head seems very realistic to me. actually i would like to Ineritia Dampener onto your head after jumping out of my dropship.
the most best defended people against my attacks have been people that get near barricades. barricades do a huge amoutn of damage to the dropship when i drop ontop of it.
if a drop ships lining up to drop on your head rush to a barricade and just dump on them and thats your only choice.
now, about the drop ship camping on top of the buildings, thats not a big deal, because another drop ship can always go up there and knock them off, or shoot them down, kind of like a king of the hill battle. it is very fun to go attack the other camper and knock him out of the snipers nest.
its basically a snipers nest for vehicles.
another reason i am diong this is because the Missle Launcher on the main gun for tanks is 100% broken. broken recoil, broken damage, Teir1/2/3 all have same stats except teir 2/3 are more costly on PG/CPU.
i am really happy that new players can jump in a dropship, learn how to drop on peoples heads, and start getting kills and skillpoints right away. this does require skill dont think it is easy. i used to play many hours of helicoptor pilot in battlefield vietnam/1942/2.

Never been killed by a DS either and always make them regret the attempt with AV grenades and rifle fire.

Lets put it this way.
I entered a battle where the enemy had 3-4 drop ships flying around, killing everything that spawned, by rocket or "drop". I thought that was an epic opportunity, re spawned in a friendly dropship, jumped out, and killed three of the enemy dropships being kind enough to go after me...
Edit: There are so many ways you can get back at the ones ramming people. the best being bait. Heavily armed bait to be sure, but still bait. And when they fly, they will bite eventually. Litter the ground in frond of you with remote explosives, and/or get a swarm launcher. |

You shields won't get in the way of a planet. Either shields should be instantly gone after ground impact or collision damage (at least with the ground) should ignore them and go straight to armour.
Anyone else agree? |

If you think it's so OP get in a drop ship and do it yourself. You will see it's not as easy as you think, you do in fact take damage/insta-die when you hit the ground if you don't do it right. It is also very easy to avoid a dropship if you have situational awareness. Drop ships are nowhere near as maneuverable as dropsuits. Hide behind a crate and crouch and watch the dropship hit the crate and blow up.
Really IMO the problem is not with the drop ships but with the maps. There is very little buildings you can enter and very little cover. Same reason a non-milta tank can just roll through the map. |

I am of the opinion that it is a ridiculous tactic to allow. I would agree that, if piloting dropships has little reward, some incentives need to be given. For example, perhaps pilots get a "Spawn on You" points with a multiplier for hitting thresholds without dying. Or, if no gunners, the pilot can fire weapons to the front. This would allow them to fulfill what I understand to be their primary role - battlefield taxi. For Defenders it is used to get troops to hotspots quickly, for Attackers it gets troops onto flanks or into unprotected areas and provides limited fire support for their side.
Also, perhaps they could also resupply ammo and/or heal troops and those actions would provide points to the pilot as well. |

Simple - because I don't want to. I'd prefer to play a game that rewards a variety of battlefield roles and prevents one from dominating the others or becomes a constant tug of war between two specific tactics. Plus, there is no "silver bullet" in real warfare and it is a tenant that should be reflected in games of this genre within the constraints naturally imposed by the medium (e.g. map size, player count, no peripheral vision, etc...).

I would agree with this assessment. Concealment/Cover is always a tricky thing in FPS', but having too much is better than too little IMO. |

I am sorry not trying to be a **** here at all, but if you never flown it or tried said tactic you have zero business discussing change to it. If you got in a dropship your self, you would see it's not easy mode, or insta-win. Drop ships take damage when they hit things, they blow up when you crash fast.
People also seem to forget, we now have an UNLIMITED supply of FREE dropships. I have to imagine that will not be in the final version of Dust. People will be a lot less likely to charge behind enemy lines with a dropship to roadkill people when that dropship cost them 100k isk. I have done the roadkilling drop ship. In a game I go 15-3 with a dropship, I probably went through 7-10 dropships. That would be upwards of 1mil isk for a single match, that is far from sustainable. But in the current version, one drop ship gets blown up, I hop out and call in another free ship. |

and this is exactly why this issue needs to be addressed, this guy spent his time designing vehicles to ruin other peoples heads, go play bumper cars or something,...this game wasnt meant to be a ramming simulator but an fps. Its upsetting really, but I have full faith that this will be addressed.
why not add an spotting device, so if there is no gunner, dropsuits on the ground could designate targets for dropships in range, and the pilot could than fire on those....there problem solved, i sure as hell would use it to get those pesky tanks off my ass. |

These are my biggest rage moments in-game not because I don't think it is fair (all is fair in war) but because it is so frustrating when it happens. Now I find myself always looking up when I cross open terrain but I still get taken by surprise, especially when I am engaging the enemy on the ground.
It is a pretty cheap kill and I generally feel bad for any player that has to resort to those means. But at the same time I understand the frustration that pilots must have when they are not supported in-game by other players. I have road shotgun with some good pilots and some bad ones. If you are a good pilot I think you will find no shortage of gunners, especially once they activate the party system in-game.
If no one wants to ride what your flyin' and you have to resort to dropship whack-a-mole in an infantry and vehicle based shooter, then maybe that should tell you something. Hang up your wings flyboy, pickup a weapon and stand a friggin' post cause your flying days are done. Time to get down and dirty with the rest of us Grunts.
Or I guess you can just go on being a pathetic hit and run specialist....is there a skill for that?! |
