Probably cuz so much crap went on at one time, but I noticed ever since dust everyone is always complimenting me on my Medic skills and how fast I react to certain situations... Also helped me work more on my communication skills because I was such an introverted lil pancake. Also helped me in a strategic way and somewhat smarter. Only thing it did bad tbh is whenever I go to a new game if it lacks strategy or isn't strategic enough i get bored super easy.
OH...It also increased my gun game for some reason... Was in negative kd for like the whole Dust career and then nearing the end I got it above 1.00. I was pretty proud of that.
To anyone who actually got the chance to squad with me and get me to talk... they had an interesting time to say the least. Nearing the end I used to be called "The scrub of yamah" Was fun... I miss my knives...

Dust was my heaven...ripped from my arms violently, like a bully stealing your pencil and snapping it in two. You can still use both pieces, but it'll never be the same.
Hope you understand the metaphor I was aiming for here, the bully being CCP, and the pencil's two pieces being other games, which aren't even half as good as the king of FPS's, Dust 514.

Sigh
I miss dust. I miss my corp. I miss the players. I miss Waffle. I miss 12. I miss Zor. I miss my purple and green skins.
Dust made me even more awarvof what goes on to the point that I analyze matches after (other games) in search of better tactics and what not.

Dust essentially changed my life... not only cause of the game, but the interaction with my corpmates affected my social skills positively. It taught me to be more generous and caring to others... I had a fair bit of ISK, but I shared around with my pals... it also showed me to try to keep everything you find dear (1000+ nanakis magsex), and even budgeting myself
The gameplay and skill tree thought me some valuable skills, too. The skill tree showed patience and showed me what may be a mistake now, will be the answer later (everyone should know I skilled into ADS right when I began... and know that's all I wanted to do in the end). Gameplay got me thinking quicker and quicker, to be certain with my choices and be confident I can work with it...
Flying around in the Incubus or Python really showed me perseverance will lead me to some rewards... when I had to get serious, I was able to move the ADS like water. It makes me want to hone my skills in real life.
In highschool, Dust 514 and work at FedEx made me mature almost exponentially... that's something I'll always be thankful for.
And starsi... (Sprite with extra lemon juice and a lil cranberry juice is what I did xD) became a drink of mine

I think due to DUST, I cannot stay involved with a game unless there is some sort of actual (ie not Destiny) clan system. I think corps/clans are what others that played DUST find lacking in other games as well.

I'd dispute. Because corps in Dust didn't mean much. They were nothing more than an aditional chat in terms of functionality. Other than the gameplay Dust's biggest pro was the community. All the people that I've met were mature, they could take a joke, they were making fun out of each other. They were the people you would invite to go for a drink.
Now this is exactly what I find missing in other games. The amount of toxic and obnoxious people compared to the cool ones is much much higher.

The tiny playerbase helped to bring focus to players, and the noob stomping helped to weed out the weak players who just ***** and whine about nothing. Now, I'm a strong weak player, so my bitchy whining survived, but most ate the curb ;)
I mean it got to a point where I could legit tell who was new and who was old just from their names, you just don't get that in most games because the player base is waaaayy too big and ever shifting.
I mean how often in other games do you have full squads of players automatically recognize you and hunt you down? We might not have had bounty systems but I and many other pilots would have mini bounties on our heads in matches from rich players who just wanted to see us explode. And I think that's awesome. In most other games though you have to be REALLY good to get noticed like that, and by that point most other players just get smoked by you or straight up never matched against you because of efficient matchmaking |

I would have to dispute that either your corp did not use all the corp functionality provided or you simply did not have any corp leadership roles to use whatsoever. Either way, my corp held active member lotteries, gear paybacks, member management (used to kick due to inactivity), FW squading, early Planetary Conquest attacks/defenses, and I am sure there is other stuff I cannot even remember at this point. Beyond being able to share corp fits in game and a clan vault to share unused gear with those that would use it, I thought corps were done rather well. There could have been some management tools added to help automate some management stuff as well but as Planetary Conquest fell apart, they were not needed.

The problem here is that it can be hardly called a function. Lotteries, gear paybacks? That's nothing more than trading. Nothing special here. Squadding and PC? That's what PC/FW/other private channels were for.
Corps didn't add much beyond the shared corp name. This and having your planets. But that's it. I'll add one thing here. We used to send back ISK to each other when we were hunting each other. I would destroy someones tank just to send back few millions isk back, to avoid any critisizm :)
I was fond of my corp leaders and members. But then again, all PC/FW and other stuff was carried over on the respective channels. I used to squad almost exclusively via my corp's chat, but we could as well squad up via a channel that we were all a part of.
DUST Fiend wrote:I mean how often in other games do you have full squads of players automatically recognize you and hunt you down? I got this feeling a lot as a pilot. Since the vehicle community was even smaller you could always tell what will that player bring to the battlefiled. And this was super cool actually. Not only the vehicle battles, but dealing with fits that they made literally on the go to counter you.
Especially in PC. One look at the leaderboard and you can see... say 2 tanks and 2 ads pilots.

This is the only game Ive ever gained even a tiny bit of notoriety in, and I attribute that mostly to the small player base and me living on the forums lol. I wish PC worked for me, I really wanted to play but it would always lag horribly and crash :/ also comms were always an issue for me cuz Id want to relay scouting info from the air but Id be locked into my own comm section and it never worked. Also I had issues getting a gunner and people always would expect me to take out vehicles AND uplinks with my Incubus, but killing uplinks with a railgun is like trying to stick your **** through the eye of a needle.
Easy for some here, but a no go for this bus driver :/ |

PC was the place where I saw the most and the wierdest vehicle glitches. Often times you would just dive into the ground randomly and then you pop out like a dolphin. A head on collision in a laggy battle = one goes upside down and the other learns how to break dance. ADS clipping through buildings. Your tank cannon going missing. And so on.

Mmhm! Just the name said enough when it came to vehicles... I personally only looked into people who fly ADS... Since there was a small player base, only a few people would stand out, and those few people had to be good to get the name to go around a bit. I feel like this can't happen in most games because of how simple vehicle piloting feels. In dust if you fly good, people recognize it because they usually just crash and die. I loved it.
You were one of the people I added to my watch list, btw.
I played in a PC once and was told to take out links... switched to a python... just to be told to help take out another vehicle. It's like they expected us to be a Dust 514 God, smiting all of their enemies :< annoying! Lol

It's like they expected us to be a Dust 514 God, smiting all of their enemies :< annoying! Lol Well I'm happy to have hit that list :) Flying was a ton of fun, for all its ups and downs. Glad to hear you got in on the flying too, this game always needed more and better pilots. And yes, people did seem to expect ADS pilots to fulfill both roles at all times. Pythons could sorta, but Incy was the master of AV. Up until shutdown people seemed flabbergasted that you could actually NOT be an infantry focused pilot. I made it my mission to terrorize any and all vehicles with my railbus.
I just wish I had gotten the chance to name a Proto Railgun. RIP 'Fiendfire" Particle Cannon. I LOVEDED YOU!!!
Here's hoping some day we can pew pew it up in the skies once more o7 |

I got notoriety from my fantastically average gameplay, happen to be squaded with J0LLY when he was recording, astronomical level rages on forums (ihatemyself), and providing cameos in Dries' amazingly cringeworthy (noteworthy) blog. Also got my fit featured on BrotherofHavoks channel. Not special just have awesome timing.
Also yes my gameplay has improved a lot. Within a couple weeks I got my KD from .3 to .7 and climbing. Finally have a comfortable, but still noticeably slow, snap aim and significantly improved reaction time. Still forget to strafe most times. I still completely bomb matches at times but i find myself able to at least break even more often than not.
Congratulations. It feels good to play good.
