Lemme say something about Dust 514... I miss the futuristic experience... the feeling that Dust gave me when first playing it. I was in space, shooting from cool guns, and had unlimited respawns. The look of the game, every little detail I could see; the buildings, the hills, the sky! -everything was perfect...a dream, a wonderful, adrenaline-rushing dream, something I so desperately needed at the time...
Dust saved me. I want to explore more wide open environments in Nova, I wouldn't like it if it was all in and around spaceships.
Dust 2.0...on UE4... that's what we need. The game was perfectly built, all it required was stability and better frames, a better matchmaker... Why build a new one from scratch? PEOPLE LOVED DUST 514 FOR WHAT IT WAS, NOT FOR WHAT IT COULD BE!!
SCRAP NOVA, BRING BACK LEGION!!! LEGION WAS WHAT DUST 2.0 SHOULD'VE LOOKED LIKE, **** SPACESHIPS, WE WANT AN OPEN WORLD!!!
Oh boy... that touching life story turned into a rant listen to me, I know what I'm talking about, CCP, MAKE LEGION!
(NOTE: This post is now a thread of it's own, since it was only noticed by 3 people, none of which were CCP)

This ship has sailed... No no. That's not right. The ship sailed, arrived on a foreign shore, unloaded its various cargo, crew, and colonists, and started a bustling colony already.
Legion is dead. It died the second CCP realized they can't just remake DUST with a fresh coat of paint and expect it to thrive. Nova is the best chance we have at a successful New Eden FPS that won't crash and burn.
My advice to you, playa.

Legion was sh*t in the same way Dust was sh*t.
Why would you even want to put up with the same junk on PC?
Why do you want to limit yourself to a Dust port when you can have a better shot of getting what Dust was supposed to be all along?
I get missing Dust, but you over react.

Bear in mind I'm overly pessimistic about Nova. And yes, I do basically want a dust port, exactly what it was, with many updates which it never had the chance to receive...

I was personally more interested in Legion than Nova... But I think maybe it was aiming for a bit too much and would have gone the same way as Dust. Hopefully Nova will start small and have the opportunity to evolve into something more interesting. |

A good game need years for developpment, what did you expect ? I prefer to wait, and finally got a good game. Stop complaining, it's useless, and mostly, devs don't care about that. If you want to be constructive, give them some good ideas, or say nothing.
Maybe Nova will be far away better than DUST we don't know, in reality we don't even know how looks like Nova, so we have just to wait. DUST wasn't perfect, framerate wasn't the only one issue. Balance, difference between new players and old player and more... all that was the problem.
I don't think it's normal, that a person like me with a lot SP and always in prototype suits (even if my aim was good), could kill a full squad in 1vs5 just because my stuff was really better than their. We think this game was perfect because it was easy for us (veteran : lot of gameplay experience, SP...), but I don't think it was the same idea for new players.
I'm checking every weeks if there is some new about Nova, if not it's not a problem, see you on the next week. You should take a break dude, you are hurting yourself at staying here with this hope. ;)

On the other hand you could wreck a proto squad with a bolt pistol any time of the day
If SP were limited to unloocking new tech and optimizing it there wouldn't be such a huge gap. It was all due to passive bonusses. Oh well.
I agree with you. We developed tunnel vision. Those used to top notch tech are all nostalgic me included. But everytime I jumped on an alt account to test something I always felt powerless (no ability to counter - i.e. lack of sp). Stop looking at dust through pink glasses people , we don't need Dust 2.0. What we need is something what Dust was striving for but failed by the end.
Let's hope CCP's new work comes to fruition. Bye.

I played DUST for what it could be... up until they announced it was not being worked on anymore, and then I realized that after 1.8 it was actually worth playing as it was.
Still, there is a lot more that it could be. But before it is more, it has to be less. Nova needs to start with a limited and achievable scope so that it can be successful from the start. Once it is successful and profitable, then CCP can expand on it with future expansions so that it will eventually grow into the SciFi FPS MMO that we dreamed DUST could be.

The most important thing to remember is that if the core game mechanics are not smooth and glitch free then no mater how much you layer on top, the game will always be sub par. The one thing we did hear from the people who played the demo last year was that the FPS mechanics were smooth, so it looks like Nova has a solid foundation to build on. Still, having all the fighting and shooting happen indoors is not my taste...hopefully as it gets developed and updated, Nova will have planetary fights on open world maps, just like in Dust.

Oh, I fully agree. My understanding it that they plan to expand back into land based maps for Planetary Conquest at least, but we are not expecting that to be ready on release.
I am also a really big fan of the whole Scavenger Grounds concept they had for Legion. They would have an open world feel. PVE with Rogue Drones. Open world PVP while competing over resources and the ability to steel someone's stuff, outside of any formal battle. And lets not forget the economic and crafting component. These are things I hope they add in to Nova, although I am not sure if any of that will be available at release.

Your titan ships better have a landscape, otherwise it's just gonna be a top-down fight, much like in one of the last added map sockets, the Caldari Research Facility or whatever it was called, in Dust.
I had nightmares about those yellow support beams...

Like I said before I don't think Nova will happen due to CCP not believing in themselves or the game, best we can hope is that those who played Dust and did believe in it's potential will be inspired enough to spread the word on what could have been, maybe a few other game developers who played or heard about Dust 514 were inspired enough to make the vision become a reality one day. Who knows. |

1) They had an early demo at Fanfest in 2016, and we know that they are still working on Nova over a year later. That shows a certain level of commitment. Nova has already been in development almost a year longer than Legion was when it was dropped, and Legion never had a playable demo at Fanfest.
2) Rattati has been very clear that they are being vary careful to control scope, and have a clear idea of what they want in the game for release and what are nice stuff that can be added to the game later. This means they are unlikely to fall into the World of Darkness trap of endless development and redevelopment without ever reaching release. It may mean that some people won't get all the stuff they want at release (vehicles, planetary maps, etc), but it also dramatically increases the chances that Nova will actually be released.
These two points make me optimistic about Nova actually making it to release.

The way I see it, even with all of its flaws, DUST was great at the time it existed. SInce then, games for the most part have evolved in several ways. Furthermore, CCP dumped a decent amount of resources into DUST but it seems to me CCP is not dumping as many resources into Nova. Due to that and the fact Nova will exist on PC only, I am not waiting on it. I will likely play it when it comes out if not busy elsewhere and if it will work on my rig but there are some great gems out there, I can't imagine there is still anyone simply waiting on Nova.

However my one fear as always, is that CCP will fail yet again to deliver on promises, expansions, whatever. Nova on ships could end up being the only Nova we see. Time will tell. |
