I played DUST for what it could be... up until they announced it was not being worked on anymore, and then I realized that after 1.8 it was actually worth playing as it was.
Still, there is a lot more that it could be. But before it is more, it has to be less. Nova needs to start with a limited and achievable scope so that it can be successful from the start. Once it is successful and profitable, then CCP can expand on it with future expansions so that it will eventually grow into the SciFi FPS MMO that we dreamed DUST could be.

Oh, I fully agree. My understanding it that they plan to expand back into land based maps for Planetary Conquest at least, but we are not expecting that to be ready on release.
I am also a really big fan of the whole Scavenger Grounds concept they had for Legion. They would have an open world feel. PVE with Rogue Drones. Open world PVP while competing over resources and the ability to steel someone's stuff, outside of any formal battle. And lets not forget the economic and crafting component. These are things I hope they add in to Nova, although I am not sure if any of that will be available at release.

Spaceman-Rob wrote:Like I said before I don't think Nova will happen due to CCP not believing in themselves or the game, best we can hope is that those who played Dust and did believe in it's potential will be inspired enough to spread the word on what could have been, maybe a few other game developers who played or heard about Dust 514 were inspired enough to make the vision become a reality one day. Who knows.
1) They had an early demo at Fanfest in 2016, and we know that they are still working on Nova over a year later. That shows a certain level of commitment. Nova has already been in development almost a year longer than Legion was when it was dropped, and Legion never had a playable demo at Fanfest.
2) Rattati has been very clear that they are being vary careful to control scope, and have a clear idea of what they want in the game for release and what are nice stuff that can be added to the game later. This means they are unlikely to fall into the World of Darkness trap of endless development and redevelopment without ever reaching release. It may mean that some people won't get all the stuff they want at release (vehicles, planetary maps, etc), but it also dramatically increases the chances that Nova will actually be released.
These two points make me optimistic about Nova actually making it to release.
