CCP Rattati had a flurry of activity on both the DUST forums and the Discord channel earlier today. We decided it would be best to compile all of it for you instead of waiting for the end of the week. Remember, everything is considered up in the air to some extent, so give your feedback!

Thanks for the update, Pokey. Reading through them all at once made me realize something: That it appears Nova is going more for a simplified and standard FPS progression where you unlock as you play and losing the skill tree altogether. Although this may make more sense within a FPS, it is a definite step away from EVE and is not really separating Nova from other FPSs as that is how progression works in most other FPSs. BTW, Pokey, thanks for saying my suggestion to do both Power Core and CPU/PG doesn't make sense. In all honesty, I do not think it wouldn't be that hard to understand while also making sense. Here is an example: - Civ/T1 suits have Energy Units (EU). - T2/T3 suits have CPU/PG Basically, EU is a simplified CPU/PG system where CPU/PG is added together (shown below with fudged numbers). - Civ Assault: 90 EU (= 45 CPU + 45 PG) - T1 Assault: 100 EU (= 50 CPU + 50 PG) - T2 Assault: 80 CPU/40 PG (= 120 EU) - T3 Assault: 90 CPU/50 PG (= 140 EU) This can be explained via lore by saying EU is a simpler power system but is limited where the CPU/PG system is needed for higher power and more advanced suits.
So see, Pokey, my suggestion can be simply explained while also making sense.

I strongly oppose doing some suits with PG/CPU and some without. It flies directly in the face of making things simpler for people. Either make it simpler (which I oppose) or just let dumb people who can't experiment kind of filter themselves out (preferred approach)
Splitting it just misleads new players and will lead to more headaches than anything.

Good NPE is all about making things simple for people. CCP is trying to make money with Nova after all so they are going to at least have to meet the majority halfway. I think my suggestion does that while also being true to EVE on the top end.

I think they need to worry less about holding peoples hands and more about making the game fun and worth playing. Most people who left DUST didnt do so because the game was too complex, they did so because bugs, lag, and match imbalances. No matter how fancy and noob friendly your NPE is, people are still going to leave in droves if theyre getting steamrolled game after game after game wih no end in sight.
DUST was great BECAUSE it didn't hold your hand, not in spite of it.

Nova doesn't need to compete against overwatch/cod/BF, EVE has proven if you deliver a good quality niche game you can still be profitable.
Dust lacked the gungame and suffered, with Nova addressing this issue a better NPE explaining the concepts is all that's needed

There is nothing wrong with giving newbros a little help. Even the die-hard Eve Online vets who have played the game for well over a decade accepted that reality because they knew, based on what CCP said in Fanfest 2016 & 2017, that the critical period for newbros is literally the first hour of gameplay from the moment they create their character to the moment they decide whether to stay or leave the game. CCP Seagull brought this up mentioning there was hard internal data backing up this claim. This was why they later introduced a massively overhauled NPE system which is very PvE-like in the Ascension update when the concept of Alpha and Omega clones was introduced.
CCP mentioned that millions of players have tried out Eve Online during the previous year but only a very small fraction of them ever decided to stay. There could be a myriad of reasons for this but the obvious one was how overwhelming the information would be for the newbros and how the newbros would struggle to get a basic understanding on how different ships should be used and fitted. This is why Eve University, Red vs Blue Alliance, Pandemic Horde, and Brave Newbies existed for the sake of helping them out. But even those alliances understood the importance of having a better NPE system.
The idea behind this is not to hold hands but to make Eve Online easier to understand but difficult to master. This is very much what CCP Rattati is trying to achieve with Nova.

You can do that with tutorials though, without stripping the game down to a bare system that barely resembles anything in DUST or EVE. I've got no problem giving newbros a place to train and what not, but building the entire game around the premise that what came before was too complicated just seems....weak.
This isn't EVE online. For all we know it's just going to be a lobby shooter with an EVE skin. We really have no idea what actually connectivity it will have, if any.
Simplifying it is good for the shareholders though, it will appeal to a broader base if it's much more familiar like most of the shooters coming out. DUST never was that complex, just laggy and buggy.
I mean....are we even going to have SP anymore with all this talk of class unlocks?

Like I said in my post above, it sounds like the skill tree may be going bye bye as Rattati had only discussed unlocking and leveling up stuff in game. This is just my speculation though. Still, I imagine there has to be some sort of SP value to level your classes and weapons.
