I normally wouldn't post stuff like this here but as there is nothing really relevant to CCP FPS going on, I did as I was pretty shocked to see the teaser.

I like anime, but only the cute and/or funny kind, so I've never actually watched death note.

Thanks, I personally like action type anime but not the typical Naruto fan. More like K project, AoT, Gundam, sometimes I watch Dragon Ball Super.
Any good ways to explain why you like anime but aren't really hardcore? I keep getting questions, the same type when I told people I'm into metal but anime is harder to explain.
Anyway I'll be watching this.

Anime is too broad of genre. That's like saying movies/film alone is a genre when it is more a type of media that contains its own genres; action, comedy, romance, etc.

I'm an odd person, I liked the original live action Death Note movies, but couldn't get into the Anime... Have little to no faith in an Americanized Death Note, but I'll give it a watch. |

1. I like to draw. More so when I was a kid. That's probably more to do with scheduling and the daily adult grind. But the point is, I like to draw. Watching anime let's me fantasize about what those drawings could be/could have been. I just love the art. That's inspiring too, in a way.
2. Because they are toons, I think they can get away with more things. For example, highly stylized action shots, violence, or visual effects that are just unrealistic even with CGI. Too, the medium is the same throughout. It's not like a live action movie with crappy CGI superimposed over it that pulls you out of the story.
3. Stories are generally bite-sized and approachable. You can get in and out without sitting through say and entire movie. It can be cinematic candy? Some are more fulfilling than others, of course, but generally it's just enough to keep you going. To add to this, stories are also very bizarre. You can't really find much else out there willing to take on these more extreme sci-fi(ish) topics. There might be a major studio movie release every few years or so, but that's not enough to satisfy that particular audience.
4. Characters are usually over-simplified down to 3-5 personality types, each with single-minded motivation. They generally are easy to relate to because they are exaggerations of the obvious.
5. They are addictive with the story arcs, showing just enough with the promise of closure... if you only watch the next ep, that then opens up more unresolved plot points instead of closing them.
6. Finally, catgirls. That one is not for me really. You know who you are.

Yeah, I saw the trailer half a week ago. Why does Light look like a hipster? Why did Ryuk seemingly dropped the Death Note towards Light, rather than a vacant location for anyone to find? Why do they not follow the source material a bit more closely?
