Years ago, I played this PC game called Tribes (the original). It was awesome. For certain modes each team would have a fortress with generators that powered everything. With your generators up you could power large force fields, shields, defense turrets, sensors, etc. There were smaller versions of all that stuff for infantry as well but only were powered for a short time. Mobile sensors had a little bit of juice and the map was only showed in a limited area where a sensor was up. I spent many hours on Tribes and that was without any persistent online mode. I thought back then that FPS games could only get better. What happened? There's so little to FPS games any more. You set up your fits, you spawn, you kill what you can until you die, and it's all repeat from there. Even autoaim is turned up so high on most console titles that you don't even have to put that much effort into aiming. I just don't get it. DUST was not the greatest shooter but there was more to it than alot of other FPS games; even current FPS titles. I am just not sure why there is not more to current FPS titles. I mean, yes, shooting is a main component within FPS games but that does not have to be all there is. Where's the clan support? Where's my persistent fortress, ship, etc that I have to defend from online players while I attack theirs? Why can't their be stuff in game that players can build/add so there is so much more satisfaction to me smashing it? I don't know. Maybe I am expecting too much from the FPS genre but I know it could be done. Someone just has to make it.

So having inherently better gear because you've played longer than someone else comes across as lousy to most players. That's not exactly true. Every FPS game has better variations of weapons you unlock over time; just to a lesser extent to what DUST had.

Thanks for the responses.
Back on topic, if series games are just the same crap year after year then why buy them? Admittedly, I bought Battlefield 1 which was fun but for a very short time. I hadn't played it in weeks now and I do not plan on buying the next BF either. Come to think of it, there isn't an upcoming must have title I can think of. I am guessing this is due to what has been explained in the last few posts.

I don't see how this could be correct with CCP wanting Project Nova to be more EVE like. Furthermore, I do not see how CCP could sink so much time into such a simple concept of a FPS. I could be wrong though.
