Knowing what I do now, I would have played from beta, not been a beta vet that was a complete novice until less than a year from the end of the game.
I didn't have long actually playing the game but that time was extremely fruitful - I managed to skill into almost every Caldari Pro suit I wanted, played long enough to really appreciate the CalAss and CalScout, made heaps of ISK and SP with CalLogi advanced suits, and generally was liking the game more and more the longer I played it. While my first few months were disastrous due to stomping and just not having a clue, near the end I was finding myself more and more at the top of the boards, often on the winning side. I would have had an absolute ball playing it from the early days. |

I would have skilled into the min scout instead of caldari assault, put a cloak on the right suit instead of putting PG/CPU extenders on my assault because my standard cloak field took up too much capacity, joined an Asian corp and ISK farm for the rest of my dust career because PC would turn into sh*t. I'd also tell everyone dust is coming on PC I never tried putting a cloak on my CalAss. I always try to play to the attributes of everything I'm using. Cloaks are meant for Scouts, so that's what I used mine for. I found it amazing to be able to run FAST throughout the maps, cloaked so well almost noone could see me, often ran behind an object and just froze while reds were running round and round looking for me. CalAss was great for the superior weaponry and shielding, which I learned to use really well when I finally stopped scouting around all over the place.
Probably the only thing I didn't do that I perhaps would have liked to explore more was the CalMando. But everyone was telling me it was such a useless suit, I didn't put much effort into it. Had the game continued I would certainly have skilled it up like every other Caldari suit and found out its strengths and weaknesses. Now I'll just remember it was a useless suit. |

I like this! We all liked balanced matches - this would have been a way to make them more balanced. |

I would have tried to care less about K/D and more about having fun with friends. I would have raged less.
I would have not wasted my time trying to forge a reputation in PC, spending loads of time in corps with people I didn't even like just because they had skilled players. I would have gone into corps with people I actually liked.
I also would have used my mic earlier in the game and more frequently.
Oh, and I also would have been less cringy, less of an attention-wh0re. But that was because of my age (I was 14 when I started playing DUST) so it couldn't really be helped. For a dedicated Caldari like me, (or Gallente on my alt), I became quite used to being somewhat of an underdog. So I didn't rage much - I just got used to it. Sometimes I did succumb to a bit of "damn, he's using an LR on a GalAss" or something like that, but it was not often. Probably the most annoying was being mowed down by an ARR or RR on a GalAss, my own race's rifles, teamed with the armour of a Gallente, thus proving the uselessness of the so-called "bonuses" compared with anything like that in EvE - for those that don't know, in EvE, if you put the right type of weapons on your ships, you get very considerable bonuses, where if you don't you get none at all - everyone in EvE knows not to try to mix them or you get dead very quickly.
Anyway, eventually my skill levels were high enough that I could even generally hold my own against the FOTM players, but only because I focused so highly on specific play styles that suited CalAss and CalScout that I used the suits and gear to their utmost.
It did help that the RR was such an awesome rifle! ;) |

Those days hurt but as they game went on and I learnt how to build the suits it did get better =ƒÿü Yes, I did miss the open Beta. I was a Beta vet that never played until very late in the piece. I actually started playing right from the closed Beta but couldn't figure out anything. The fitting system looked something like the EvE system. But deploying was lost on me. I think I remember deploying once but not finding anyone to play with. So I gave up, thinking I would have another go later but never did due to RL circumstance. When I started playing again it was to be only less than a year to the end.... |

Yes, that is a shame. The end was awesome for all its finality. |
