If CCP wants to integrate Nova into the EvE Universe and connect EvE to it, in my opinion it has to be done either from the very beginning or it must be something heavily considered while the game is being created, otherwise it will end up being an epic connection of Orbital Strikes and no more, just like Dust. This is likely obvious to some of you, but it is something that sort of troubles me with the current take the Nova devs are doing, perhaps they are taking too safe a route.

Fairly certain most people want an EVE connection, but having one at launch is not a good idea. They need to get everything right before they take that route or we end up with how dust was.

From what i observed and pretty disappointed about is EVE integration is not really even on the priorities list.

I sincerely hope they are keeping an EVE connecting in mind while developing and trying to avoid anything that would act as a roadblock to building such a connection in the future.
But not including an EVE connection on release is part of controlling scope. They want to produce a small self contained and well polished game that can act as a strong kernel to build from as they expand the game in the future. By limiting the scope of the game at release they can insure they completely finish and polish the features they are including. If they make a good game, and it is successful, then they can add more features to it in successive expansions and it will build over time as EVE has.

The problem is if they spend the time to connect their new game to their old game, this adds only maintenance to the old game to keep the integration up for the new game. And if the new game fails for some reason, that puts unneeded strain on the old game along with some obsolete things that may incidentally never be removed (like gear listings). IMHO, CCP should build an entirely new version for EVE (2.0) with FPV and FPS capabilities built in rather than piece mealing everything along with creating unconnected split offs. This is the only way they could properly step up to the graphics and UI provided in other titles along with creating a trully connected universe where you can both do capsuleer and mercenary. Then again, such a changeup would likely alienate their older players but would likely bring in new ones. Only way for a happy medium would be to put current EVE into maintenance mode while working on the new one. None of that will never happen though.

I highly doubt a substantial EVE connection will be a part of Nova.

I think CCP has probably given up on the utopian dream of a beautifully integrated network of games, each exploring a different aspect of New Eden, working together and affecting each other in synthesis.
BUT
Let's consider it hypothetically. If CCP DID have the steadfast conviction to integrate Nova with EVE in a spectacular way, when would be the best time to do it? Should they attempt to include it at launch, or should they wait until the game is more established in its own right?
If they included it at launch they would be able to take advantage of the hype that would build, which was a big factor in the hype that DUST had. If the integration was to be a significant part of the game - its main selling point - then there would be good sense in including it at launch because there would be a better chance of making a big impact and hooking a large number of players. Yet this has the danger of being a letdown if it isn't implemented properly or fullheartedly.
From what we've heard about Nova so far from Rattati, the game is meant to be, at its core, a great FPS game. This leads me to believe that things like EVE-Nova integration and other nice-to-haves are not going to be the primary focus like it was in DUST. Since this is the case it is much more sensible to hold off on stuff like that rather than try to include it for launch. That's only true though if the EVE-Nova integration isn't going to be really significant. It's fine if its going to be something to do with the markets because that will just be something cool but not something game-defining. On the other hand, if CCP is planning ship-boarding in real time, that would have to be something that is included at launch due to its significance.
I think its fair to say that what none of us want is a half-baked and unsatisfying integration attempt like what DUST had. If we're going to do something, let's do it well. That doesn't mean that CCP should go over the top and try to take on more than what it can handle. It just means that they should be realistic with what they want to achieve and know beforehand, because this will decide whether it would be best to include it at launch or to work on it later.
tl;dr - Whether CCP should include the integration at launch or include it later depends on how significant the integration is intended to be. If it is meant to be a big part of the attraction of the game then it should be included at launch. Judging from Rattati's comments though, I don't think this is part of the plan. If there will be an EVE-Nova connection, it will be implemented after launch.

I can understand why the devs are taking the safe route (because of past failures), but then they have to make sure that they are considering features for when they do integrate. Unless they aren't even planning on it.
