What about you peepz?
I have this gut feeling if Nova comes out there is going to be a re occurring fee similar to EVE.

Would i pay any amount of money to play DUST in its' final iteration forever? No.
If i could get the Chromosome days back, with all of the Uprising goodies(racial rifles/suits) and maybe the balancing of late Warlords. I would be happy to spend maybe 5 a month on it.

would not spend a dollar a year.
The people who played the game is what made it great, not the actual gameplay itself. I know not enough people will come back to ever make the game more meaningful than just pub game, if the option was there.

There was a post similar to this on the forums about a month ago. I said it then & I'll say it again, why would anyone want to pay for a game which was free-to-play to begin with? Especially when your paying for the same game with no improvements. If there were improvements, then it might be a different matter. But then again, Nova is probably the improvement in development. Hopefully lol |

A subscription helps to weed out the players who aren't committed to the game, and also helps to maintain an active update cycle since money is always flowing in.
They're two different approaches to gaming, it just depends on what you're looking to get out of the game.
CCP abandoned DUST in favor of VR and I'm just not ready to drop $400-$600 for CCP anytime soon. Once Nova is a reality we can talk about monetization.

I paid for a EVE subscription just to run my DUST Corp and give me access to decent in game mail. That was on top of what I was paying for implants, and those nice shiny skins.

I don't play games like that for the most part. I play games where I can play with the same people for years, but for such games to not become deathly boring, they need to evolve and change to provide me with new experiences. For a game to evolve you need to have Developers and most Developers don't work for free, so an evolving game requires ongoing funding in some form.

Players may complain about monetization methods in free-to-play games, but the truth of the matter is that if they don't have some form the game can't stay online.
In answer to the OP, I wouldn't pay to play Dust because I'd much rather play what it was SUPPOSED to be for free when it launches.

There is a multiplayer mod too, but some drivers are so cancerous, moderators need to be online.

I don't think he meant to say the games are never updated, just that they rarely get meaningful content updates in a timely fashion, if at all. That's why so many games are adding in cash shop style things, even in single player games.

I think it's highly unlikely that they'll go pay-to-play for Nova, and even less likely that they'd charge a subscription.

We might see a subscription option available, similar to Planetside 2, but the base game remains F2P. For anyone not familiar with PS2: you can pay $15/month to earn certifications (basically SP) faster and get a handful of PS2 equivalent to AUR.
We have no idea how monetization will look in project nova. I hope CCP goes back to the marketing/accounting department and has a serious talk with them about the cost of SKINs. $10 per SKIN is hilarious.

I'd love to play Dust again. I just wouldn't want to pay for it since we had it free for all those years. What CCP really should've done was allow Dust to continue until Nova was nearer to becoming a reality. That way they would keep the fan base interested. I browse these forums every month or so to check in on developments but I do feel like I'm losing interest. So by the time Nova maybe does get released, I may not care for it at all since we've been away from New Eden for so long. |

I dumped a decent amount of money on DUST but it did not live up to what was promised. Quite honestly, I am not sure how it ever could have. PC friends of mine back in the day told me if anyone could do it though, it was CCP. Beyond that, I still spent a lot of time in game and had some great gaming experiences so I do not regret the money spent. That said, I would not pay to have DUST back as I barely played late into release. There came a point for most players where they had to face reality and realize the game wasn't going to get any better. That and the super jumping was kind of ridiculous to me to be implemented so far into release. I hung into the game pretty consistently until that. For Nova though, I am not going to dump money in at first to support the game and hope for the best like I did for DUST. DUST taught me to pay as I go. If I spent a decent amount of time in game and had fun, I pay then. I did that for Hawken and am enjoying the skins I got due to contributing although some of Hawken's prices for stuff are ridiculous. For reference, in Hawken, some cosmetics are as much as $3+ and some mech unlocks are $7+ each.
I cannot be bought, but I can be leased.

Why not save up for a computer than can run Nova instead of dumping money into a sub-par PS3 free-to-play game? I was assuming that this was just an abstract question about how much monetary value we consider this game to have had. And I do think I would be willing to pay $20 a month if I could somehow bring back DUST and all the playerbase, not bringing Nova into the equation. But even with knowledge of Nova, I would still pay for DUST.
