Celebrating all the wonderful things about this game.
So many of us fell in love with this wonderful game. These final two weeks offer an opportunity to look back and celebrate all the great things about dust and how much fun we all had.
Why did you love Dust? What was your favorite part of this game?
I try really hard and die.

Starting as a weakling on the battlefield and evolving into a force to be reckoned with.
My only regret is not spending any time on the game this past year... otherwise I'd have skilled into Caldari suits. Though I suppose my alt character with Caldari vehicles is close enough.

I'd go with this myself. I was hopeless to start with - couldn't hit the side of a barn, and even using sights on my RR I couldn't do anything much.
Then the training started to really bite and I started finally getting some kills.
Then I learnt how to hipfire and not run away from everything. :) |

The camaraderie in corps or at least in my corp made it worth it to me. Dust has a great voice system something I find lacking in planet side 2. it is simple and effective. I also like the level of customization the game has (had). You build your character to meet your own specific needs and the combination seem to be endless. I always had to delete fits to accommodate new setups all the time. I think Dust allowed the player to see his/her character grow and change. |

This, and the game of alts is a fun forum past-time (yes, I see the forums as an extension of the game).

Good or bad, I've never played anything like it before and I've also never played anything else for as long a duration either.
Here are my reasons why:
1. PC and the rush of participating 2. The Meta involved in the overall game experience 3. The depth of customization and the variety of roles 4. The simple but incredible comms, which should be noted and emulated by other game makers 5. Jenza's pants
A lot of people still have no idea about the jones they got comin' in a few weeks ;-]

Solid social system Great people that don't mind me being a micless snark Progession with characters giving complete freedom in customization When you're in a squad and everyone in harmony in their own way (this may just be my lack of FPS experience) PC! Hatemail. The amount of complete seriousness vs complete lack of seriousness (Boundless optimism, looking at you Pokey) What legit people would do for this game & asking for help helps.

Assault dropships. I'd like a spinoff game with just this.
Otherwise, the racial combat and gear concept of EVE backed by a compelling backstory is why this is the only fps I've been able to have any interest in playing.

The knifing game.
All the others (that I can think of anyways), have a generic animation for knifing that is quite bland, and its not really something specific.
This game makes you have to sacrifice to do it, and its hit detection based, which takes much more skill.

I think this game is amazing. DUST 514 wasn't a typical first person shooter, what gave this game it's attention for me was it's lore/background. DUST 514 is extremely massive if you include the EVE Universe... I liked the whole "Corporation" structure and idea. Seeing "Clan" seems too out-of-touch of our time, since we live in a corporate world it makes social gatherings feel more in-depth. When I began to learn more about DUST 514's background the more I got dragged into it, inter-stellar space travel along with the unique sci-fi technology AND political mayhem is bound to allure my attention, war alone is enough to get me caught up in most games. I fell in love with "space" since I was a child, and military, so DUST 514 just happen to be that particular game that carried most of the stuff I liked. My Favorite part of DUST is the Battle of Caldari Prime, I was there when the Shiigaru had smashed into the planet. When I looked down from inside Cestus I've seen a change in the landscape. When I jumped out of the MCC and looked up that gigantic titan ship engulfed the whole horizon!
Good times.... good times indeed.
