Massive scale warfare and the ability to be a dedicated jet pilot and support infantry in that way.
I never got that, and it may be years before I get it from Nova, but I've been hooked on that possibility since 2009 and no game that's come out since then has given me what I crave.
So I'll be staying for whatever comes in Nova. I hope someday they'll finally build what they said they wanted back in 2009, and then I'll finally have the game I've wanted since I first played air combat sims 20 years ago.

The scope presented in the 2009 trailer set on Intaki Prime. The game offered a science fiction shooter with localities and context.

Bunch of Friends from BF3 thought it would be a cool place to move to. We knew Dojah Souljah from BF3 and had a open invitation.
Joined Murderz for Hire just before they became Intrepidus XI and moved into EoN.
Pretty much everyone I knew from there quit after the EoN war. Only one I knew from the old days was Jade, and I was never really a fan of Jade Tech.
The rest is history.

XD What first brought me to Dust... one summer's day I was browsing the PS Store looking for free games, and I came across Dust 514. A First-Person-Shooter with a cool name... interesting - I thought I'll be honest, Dust 514 was my first FPS experience, and it will always stay in my heart as one of the best-feeling immersive shooters ever. ^ This... I used to play race games and fly-simulators... GranTurismo, Need for Speed... Dust was my first fps ever... Loved it from my first game ( 1,5 y ago) and i'll be playing 'till they pull the plug... This was me. I came from Gran Turismo 3, 4 and 5, competitive Mario Kart Wii, the Need For Speed series and DiRT 3 before Dust.
Oh, and Minecraft. Before it became paedo land.
You'll only find me playing Destiny now.

Saw the trailer during E3 2011-2012 (don't remember which) and was intrigued by what I saw, so I signed up for the closed beta.
It was the first FPS I had played in a very long time, and I enjoyed it more than most multiplayer games I played back then. Still do in some ways.
Rest In Peace Dust, it's been fun.

I came here from my mate who played eve since the beginning offering me a closed beta code and telling me to get my ass off Black ops.
He was right, it was a good decision. But I was my own worst enemy playing this **** to death day in day out. It turns good men........cruel.

Been an EvE player for a long time. Was invited with the rest of the EvE community to join the Dust open beta, and became a beta vet, although I didn't play really until a little less than a year ago.
I was looking for the same sort of things that others were, who came from EvE - the idea of fighting on stations, as well as on the ground, the possibility of piloting a ship that would transport people from a station to the planet, that sort of thing. Lots of things that didn't happen.
What I found when I came back was very different from what I first believed Dust would be, but it was still good enough to stick around and see what I could do with the skill training, full Caldari all the way as with EvE. |

A friend who played EVE had a Beta key. The game promised complex large scale combined arms battles where the skill of individual players and the ability of leaders to organize would really matter. The promise of persistence for your victory or loss. The true sense of loss when your clone died with all its gear.
That was the lure. I took my first dropship flight the day after they received their realistic flight mechanics and I was hooked. Here was a truly skill based flying vehicle in an FPS! I dreamt of how they could be used as troop transports after finding my position overrun by a troop drop in an early corporate battle (recounted in my Dropship FlightSchool thread).
I championed the new Dropship through release after release, enduring flight ceilings, explosive paint, and over powered swarm launchers, occasionally indulging in the guilty pleasure of being an overpowered "death from above" when the pendulum swung too far my way. I tried to explain the new flight mechanics to new players and build a dedicate cadre of pilots who would prove their worth when the maps opened up and we were truly needed. The future was SO bright...
Alas, CCP never delivered. They turned my beloved dropship into a simple gun platform which had to compete by killing infantry, lacking any role to call its own. The dropship was still a skilled platform, but it didn't have anything to do. I was frustrated.
Eventually I stopped playing when I realized it was never going to change. Project Nova revives the promise, though it will take a long time before we learn if it will deliver. |

Unfortunately, from what I know of CCP, they never deliver on their promises, most of which are pure vapourware. It really baffles me that they haven't figured out people actually know this now, and they haven't worked to correct the image. Perhaps Nova will be their first attempt at doing just that, but I doubt it.
I like the dropships too, and was so looking forward to piloting them rather than the infantry stuff. But no, it was not to be, and this new FPS-focus which suits all the people who only see Dust as an FPS, probably means even if Nova really does get off the ground, there won't be anything in it other than the FPS stuff, sadly.
I'm sure that will suit most who currently play Dust. It won't suit me. I'll play the alpha/beta if I get invited, but I doubt that it will go anywhere much after that. |

A friend of mine recommended this game to me, saying that "it was good; it's his favorite FPS; yadayadayada". So around 2014 i said "Ok, i'll try it out"... Got killed so many times that i took a break. When i got back, i had millions of SP ready to be spent so i gave it a second try, and it went better, AND even better after joining my first corp, AND WAY better when i managed to get my first proto weapon and suit. Before i even noticed, i stayed in the game. Loved the atmosphere, loved the fitting customization on both dropsuits and (ground*) vehicles, the people i talked with in the corps i was and the satisfaction of killing someone with Officer grade weapons (or suits) with advanced suits. While my friend left the game for League of Legends, i stayed here... and i will stay till the end . (And besides... my PC SUCKS for gaming)
*: While i learned to use Dropships, i still suck at themStraight.
On a side note: I like the sound (and looks) of the warbarge strike.
On another note: By accident, i made this reply into another topic.... Oops. |
