Below is the text I submitted in your feedback survey, but I wanted to post it here to not only make sure the devs see it, but get other users feedback as well. THANK YOU for the game CCP.
Quote:I love the concept and want this game to succeed. Right now I feel like the combat is just not up to par with other FPS out there. The shooting for example is very reminiscent of the game MAG, the guns feel very light and contact with enemies is like shooting pellets through cardboard. Games like Battlefield 3 or the Modern Warfare series succeed because they can hook players in with the intensely satisfying combat. While Dust 514 has a concept that is unprecedented and very much appreciated, it still needs to deliver on combat to attempt to compete with successful FPS franchises. When I'm shooting a rocket launcher in Call of Duty it feels very powerful, and the resulting DualShock 3 feedback, audio support, and weapon movement FEELS satisfying. Shooting the (triple) rocket launcher in Dust is just the opposite, when I pulled the trigger the first time I wasn't sure anything even fired!
I can't stress how hard this is to explain, but when you scope a guy from 100 yards in Battlefield 3, you FEEL it. Shooting enemies in this game just lacks the feeling you get in the other successful FPS franchises. I hope you guys are able to get a copy of MAG and load it side by side with Modern Warfare 2 and feel the difference. MAG (and Dust) just feel empty compared to the others. The developers at Zipper (who created MAG) created one of the best online shooters in SOCOM 2 for the PS2. The combat was so intensely satisfying, that when MAG lacked it I was dumbfounded. That makes me believe this "feeling" is incredibly hard to nail, but I'm hoping you guys can do it.
One more tiny issue, and I know this is still a beta product, but the textures in the maps look downright bad at points. I understand as a F2P game you don't have the budget to get ultra realistic graphics like a Battlefield or Call of Duty, but being in the sci-fi genre means you have to immerse me in this world. And the subpar graphics are not doing the job right now.
Thanks for the game guys, I know you can do the job, and I look forward to the final product. |

I have the same problem with the overall feel of the game. On a conceptual level Dust 514 is the best FPS ever made, in reality it lacks the feel of a FPS. I want Dust 514 to succeed as well but we are really far from it...the latest build showed that CCP can do it.
P.S. I made a thread that touches specifically the way weapons feels, you might want to check it and see if you can add more useful feedback. it's called "Improvements for animations & weapons feel" |

^^^ In COD RPG has a better feel than the Swarm in Dust 514. I don't like COD and I think Killzone does it million times better but really the feel of the weapon here is disappointing.

The sound effects, the weapon bob/feedback makes you feel like you are firing something substantial. An RPG in Battlefield or Call of Duty is 10000X more satisfying to use than the SWARM. |

Do you think the weapons would feel more satisfying if they added some stopping power? As it is right now, and enemy can run right through your bullets as if he wasn't getting shot at all. With a little stopping power, your gun will feel more "substantial" and players won't be able to strafe around as easily while getting shot.
Even if you don't think it would make the weapons more satisfying, don't you think a person would have some sort of reaction to taking 6 bullets in the chest? |

I actually really liked MAG because of how sharp it is and I love Dust for similar reasons. |

I agree that some stopping power would be nice.
Ugh, like I said it's just hard to explain. Another nice example is Killzone, shooting is incredibly rewarding. Bullets don't feel like harmless paintballs. |

If they had feedback with the guns like in BF3 I would be happy. What your problem is that 1. Unreal Engine was not designed for advanced environmental or particle physics than say frostbite, the engines original source code is ancient. 2. I think graphic updates are much lower on the priority list. Hit detection and balancing and sorting out how it connects with EVE are far higher. |

I know exactly what you mean, I popped in KZ3 yesterday and felt that satisfaction. Guns in Dust 514 sound (and feel) like they're shooting cotton-balls.

For those who have commented on stopping power, I am pretty sure shields (which other FPSs don't have) nullify stopping power until the shields are depleted. As for weapons, I really like the update so far. DUST is certainly coming along as shortly after a firefight, there was still smoke lingering. Grenades now have some pretty cool affects on enemy bodies too. If you don't like the current DUST weapons, best thing you could do is give a specific way they could be improved instead of saying unhelpful comments such as "weapons in another game are better" or "DUST's weapons should be like what are in another game". |

We're not saying the weapons in one game are "better", we're comparing how the mechanics of firing a weapon in Dust just aren't up to par with the other major FPS's on the market. My post certainly isn't a long winded complaint, I gave the best possible example I could (I'm not a software engineer, so I can't exactly point out the lines of code they need to tweak). But I'm hoping the devs can just take a look at it.
To the other poster, that's a good point on the Unreal Engine. Hopefully they can work some magic. |

Sorry, I guess I should have taken out my "Encyclopedia of Sci-Fi Physics" before suggesting it.
Experiment with stopping power on Armor then, CCP. |

I have played Tribes Ascend and dag those guns all feel good, very good. Not to mention that Tribes Ascend has enormous maps...it's a bit barren but hell they are enormous. Dust 514 has impressive near photo realistic environments though.
Also in Killzone 3 the Swarm launcher is a beauty. |
