I think we can all agree that form our experience playing Dust 514, we have learned something from it that we can apply to real life. These are just 5 out of many things Dust has taught me, not in any particular order. So let's get started:
1. Patience
I am of a firm believer that everyone here who has stayed with Dust throughout the years and have remained active are probably the most patient people ever. For weeks, months, years, we have waited for updates, hotfixes, general news about the game, and even when we were let down disappointed, we stuck around because we believed in this game and what it stood for.
Another way this game has taught me patience is of course the seemingly endless grind. Constantly skilling up weapons and dropsuits takes extreme patience to do.
The patience I have gained from Dust is immeasurable, and has helped me in real life immensely in my day to day tasks.
2. Teamwork
In Dust, teamwork is key, in all game modes, and especially Planetary Conquest. Dust has taught me the value of working together with people towards a like minded goal, and that is easily transferable to real life. The people you work with don't need to be your best friends, but you do need to help each other to claim the victory flag.
3. Leadership
Dust 514 forced me to take on a leadership role, whether it was squad leader or Director of a corporation. I have found this great practice for taking on leadership roles in real life as well, and I think the experience has helped me out immensely.
4. Money Management
Dust has taught me to be frugal, too often have I run out of money by buying expensive items, in Dust and in real life as well. Later in the game I learned that running Militia Fits was the easiest way to make money, other than PC farming back in PC 1.0 (which I did not participate in unfortunately)
5. Persitance
Dust has taught me the art of persistence, to never give in to the enemy until the Victory or Defeat screen appears, to never lay down my arms. Dust has taught me that wars are not won in 5 minutes, but only with the hard work and a combined effort over an elongated period of time. Dust has taught me a very important lesson, and that lesson is:
ThereGÇÖs no such thing as winning or losing. There is won and there is lost, there is victory and defeat. There are absolutes. Everything in between is still left to fight for.
The enemy will have won only when there is no one left to stand against them. Until then, there is only the struggle, because tides do what tides do GÇô they turn.
What have you learned from Dust 514?

I learned...
-that people want to make ethnicity more relevant than it really is. For every Latino that you see doing something irritating, there's an obnoxious English-speaking player also abusing the meta. It's simply a matter of what you notice and what you don't.
-that Dust is an exact copy of the actual economy. No one cares if you're poor. You "did it to yourself" or "you're not abusing the system like I did and you should". And just like IRL, the majority of existing wealth is owned by a tiny percentage of the population. People with more ISK and assets than they know what to do with, but still refuse to give to new / intermediate players or even lower their ridiculous selling prices. (And I'm referring to pre-announcement too)
-not to trust the higher-ups to fix anything correctly or care about your opinion / well-being. Not to mention they listen to the highly successful individuals who are only worried about their own gains / ideals.
-that finding a small group of pleasant and like-minded people is the best way to enjoy yourself, have trusted trading partners, stay afloat financially, etc..
Dust has shown me a lot of human nature / psychology, good and bad. It doesn't surprise me at all that MMOs are studied in some colleges.

Most of the things i learned i never 'learned', just confirmed.
1) Flying solo is cool until you realize running with someone that's legit (or a couple) is awesome 2) Not having a mic saves me from SO. MUCH. embarrassment (i rage.... a lot), and raging on the forums (in public) makes me look like an idiot. Save the rage for something useful, I'd love a job in demolition.
3) Small groups are legit 4) Bad vibes= leave
5) Because your nice people will try to screw with you. Tell those people to politely (or impolitely) fuk off, then leave it alone. Engaging with an idiot longer then necessary is embarrassing and you don't look any better even if you 'win' the argument.
And people say you can't learn anything from video games. Also learned about how to reduce lag when playing other stuff and sorta how hitboxes and hit detection and... other stuff works. I learned some social skills, ive played for 3? years now, my first year+ i never interacted with anyone, now i try to interact with people more often then not even if its an lfs.
I'm all for this type of social network in games for people that have problems speaking IRL but still have something to say. Text onscreen in Phoenix please, maybe a quick chat? Pre selected words like 'tank on Alpha' things like that. Please?
Done rambling.

Agreed, I'm almost certain that when it comes down to CCP as a company, the majority opinion will always vote for Eve over anything else. Dust didn't even get a real chance, even if we chose to believe so.
