handled like... Then: a mylar balloon mixed with a minivan... Now: part harrier, part huey gunship, part ballerina...
Took damage like... Then: could pinball its way through a canyon with only minimum shield damage, but would implode if anyone on the opposing team stared at it too long... Now: can shrug off heavy damage long enough to find cover to lick its wounds, unless in your haste to escape, you clip a corner, then itGÇÖs burning crater time...
Speed... Then: Moved quicker in free fall then when actively flying downward... Now: (thanks to GÇÿdouble vectoringGÇÖ) Pedal, iGÇÖd like to introduce you to my good friend, metal...
Gunners... Then: Most useful when used more like a deployable hover turret... Now: Mahaha GÇÿrainGÇÖ down the death...iGÇÖm getting hit, but from where!?!?...oh, its my gunner...
In death... Then: experienced pilots never die in their ship, not so much for the passengers/gunners though... Now: experienced pilots never die in their ship, and thanks to the critical damage warning alarm, less frequently for passengers/gunners now.

These controls are really taking some getting used to. Really glad I didn't have to invest to call these things in. It would be nice to have a training area/course for these things. Would have helped if there were even stated instructions (if there are, I didn't see them). First calling one in I just sort of scooted along the ground a bit pressing buttons, hopping out and looking at it, switching seats, etc, for about two minutes before finding that I had to hold L1 and R1 just to get off the ground. And once I finally got in the air it handled like a drunk elephant walking on marbles. It can work better, I know. I've seen people able to deal with it and fly them well enough. It's just about as far from intuitive for me as you can get.
Is taking damage from your own gunner intentional? Why on earth (or wherever) would the turret be able to turn far enough to shoot what its mounted on? That makes no sense. In addition, while wearing the Dragonfly dropsuit (if that makes any difference) and sitting next to a gunner, I was taking damage whenever he fired. Had to jump out. |

I do believe its just L1 to raise, L2 to lower, and you can maintain height without consistantly holding either, I also noticed that for some strange reason the harder i pressed the button, the more thrust I got lol.

Well, the PS3 controller buttons (all of them) are analogue/pressure sensitive. |

I used to fly dropships all the time last build, and admittedly I have not played with them as much this time around, but has anyone else found that the damn thing's vertical movement speed is horrific? I had a hell of a time trying to get the thing to ascend at any decent rate.
Some things I love about the new dropships, others I hate. I'll need to experiment more first, but I deff have my concerns. |

Try pressing the **** out of L1 you should see a significant boost. like press as hard as you can and you SHOULD zoom.
Also, found out through a test that you cannot in fact... be the only person in the Dropship.. and switch to gunner without plummeting to your doom.. unless you have a crew the dropship is a pretty bullseye XD or you start teabagging people .. xD |

I really wound up liking the way they sound first off, the wud wud whirrr sounds make me feel like im legit in control of some high tech shiat.
But what was more important to me was the fact that with a set of two gunners and my semi legit piloting skills I was able to overtake and drop under several rocket salvos from opposing DS's.
Mid air acrobatics are a must for someone coming from the air combat section of BF 1942. Nothing too rediculous though. |

There really does need to be some sort of gunship down the line though. I find it obcenely difficult to take down dropships. |

they did mention fighters at one point I believe. Other than that, imagine calling a tactical drone strike on vehicles :D |

The firing arcs on it are a bit odd I'll agree to that.. I keep clipping my own ship which is a bit stupid. Maybe reduce the firing arc so it doesn't leave you thinking you can hit something that far forward/aft meanwhile all you're doing is exploding your rounds on the ship.

really? the swarms lock up so quickly now, that you can have your second round in the air even before the first one hits. (you know all the vehicles save the LAVs are supposed to be taken down by co-ordinated effort not just 1 guy 1shotting)

as an avid dropship pilot, i often find my self in a dropship, minus gunners...: ( however this fact has not stopped me from removing enemy drop ships from the air...I am completely in love with mid air collision mechanics, used a free drop ship to punish an enemy dropship for giving the business to my ground pounder buddies trying to cap 'A' the pilot ejected but neither gunner did, and when he and i both landed safely via the dampener, i feed him some shotgun shells just for good measure... |
