Nope once again you're jumping to end this shite, I never thought it was a good idea to put money into this game and besides the skins and instant gratification stuff I never saw it any reason to buy anything from this game.

Right so a few things I mean by "Progress"
-Being able to move around the station you're in, instead of being stuck in the damn quarters all the time unless you are in a match
-Interactions with EVE players not just being Orbital strikes and chat channels
-Being able to travel throughout New Eden, moving to different stations at a cost of isk or travel to a planets surface
-Boarding Titans (not sure who here wouldn't want to be able to do this)
-Weapon customizations (might be a problem with balancing)
-PVE
Just a few off the top of my head
After fanfest 2014 I wasn't expecting anything else to really be done with this game so ya they did progress further than most expected on the ps3.
1) So you want use to move around and stuff even though they have yet to do that in EVE? Also you want to add unnecessary fluff ontop of a game that was already pushing the limits of the PS3? 2) This was not CCP Shanghais fault but more of a players fault as some EVE players fervently protested having any connection with Dust. More so after FF14. 3) Actually, if you asked a GM nicely back before FF14, they would have moved your station for you. IIRC all of PIE Alliance are in one station. 4) This was something that, again, would have been protested greatly as the idea of boarding titans was to destroy it from the inside. You clearly have no knowledge of how much of a huge investment a titan is. First, it takes a f.ckig long time to train to fly it properly (not talking weeks or months, but years), and getting a hold of a titan is f.cking just as daunting. Some people go as far as purchasing accounts that can fly and have a titan with real life cash. So to go through all that trouble just to have a group of people you have no defense against destroy your investment would **** people off greatly. Sure you can have your own mercs on board, but you are still risking a huge time and money investment. 5) Weapon Customization? Really? Just not going to mention FULL RACIAL PARITY. Which they had a work around for that in place. I am sorry you can't have your 6x scope on your assault rifle, but don't worry we have a gallente plasma thrower... oh wait. It was in talks, mainly full racial parity, which is a higher priority in most peoples opinion. And as I said, Rattati had a work around by reskinning and adding different attributes to the reskinned models. F.ck weapon customization, you can have that after I get my Plasma Thrower or Laser Lance. 6) Only thing I agree with you, there needed to be PvE. However, again, the PS3 was already at it's limits. Edit: To add more to point 5, keep in mind we had a decent amount of weapons and variants for said weapons. More than what most modern FPSs can say these day.
1. Something besides my damn quarters and that waiting room before a battle would've been alright. Even if they could only have your character walking around I'd be fine with that.
2. Really? lol thought it was sort of mixed, some were like "nah fk that", while others were like "hey that sounds good"
3. Doesn't really matter now since their not doing it anymore, being able to move to different areas by paying isk for transportation is all im saying. Not sure what's wrong with that.
4. Well your right about that, guess it's never gonna happen.
5. wow wow calm down, I figure weapon customizations would come after they got all these other weapons out there for the 4 main factions.
6. Meh but then there were those drones those few times they were shown in that trailer. https://youtu.be/Xnt1tTlnqfY

Well, they still think they IP is profitable enough to make another game of, so I guess all our love and support worked on that front I guess. Which is good to me, because I will totally be playing that new game on PC. Not so sure about the profitable side since I've no idea how much money CCP actually made off of people that bought in game things but the one main reason to always continue the development is the potential of an MMO-FPS connected to a Sandbox MMO like EVE.
Businesses don't start projects that don't give them some sort of benefit.
And they won't sink time and development into something that won't make some kind of financial return.
The money put into Dust showed them that they have a potential source of income when they make this game, in addition to the new players they will grab on PC.
Why do you think they're telling us Dust players will get some benefits?
They want the people who put money into this game to come over to PC and continue to give them money.

Well of course but im saying that I don't know if it's made them a whole lot of $ and yes they know they can make a lot of money off of this idea.

Hm. I have a feeling OP is referring to those who put money in with the specific idea of long-term investment, and not so much how many have replied so far in the thread in spending money---as short-term entertainment and/or as a way to give appreciation for whatever.
In that frame of reference, I too wonder wtf those who "invested" money with the idea of long term goals (2, 5, 10 years into the future) would do so. There are a lot of posts of players feeling ripped off and taken advantage of. To me and the way I see things, I paid for a quick boost in SP, access to AUR proto, or novelty fun items and BPOs. All of which, for me at least, paid-off the moment I got that access. I know some (many?) do not see it that way. I'm honestly curious how else one could rationally see it? I mean, being a video game.
If that is the OPs point---to draw a line between people paying for entertainment only (movies, going out to eat, concerts, etc.) and people expecting returns down-the-road on an investment---then I kind of agree. That is weird to me.
OP: correct me if I'm assuming too much?
*EDIT* No clue where the thread is now. Been distracted over here. I hope this is still relevant!

I spent < 300USD on this game, played it for over 3 years off and on, so roughly $8 per month. I just spent $120 on battlefront and the division in the last 3 months? I played battlefront for like 2-3 weeks and went back to ESO, so like 20 bucks a week is what I have payed for SWBF. The division is not even out yet, but I feel like I will get my money's worth there.
I have also taken my misses to the movies in the last few months. 30 bucks for a couple hours of enjoyment..
My point is, you are likely going to pay for entertainment anyways, (unless you are a broke-ass neckbeard living in your mom's basement,) why is it so tough to throw a few dollars a month at a game you KNOW you are enjoying..
Edit after seeing above replies:
Who TF *invests* in a video game? Where did you even get that idea? No one invests in a movie? No one invests in a day at the amusement park? Why would anyone invest in a video game? If this is really where OP was going, stupid thread is stupid thread..

Because I never needed to, its a f2p game so I kept it that way. Id rather unlock stuff by playing instead of spending money to fet further on a game that didnt look like it was getting anywhere. The enjoyment from the game for me died out around the 1.5 patch for the Uprising expansion. Plus there was never anything that they sold that really interested me in putting real money into.

I don't feel too bad about spending *some* money on free games if I find it somewhat enjoyable. One reason is because I took video game programming in college for a few years and it gave me a lot of respect for the people who do it for a living and ever since then I've been more accepting to the idea of donating money to keep their development team working. One thing that some people may overlook is that just because it's free, they still need to make money off of it or they can't support it and then we all lose out on what something can potentially become.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in what Dust had become after CCP telling us all what the game was going to be. I am glad that I only spent $20 on it because the enjoyment didn't last too long and they never made enough progress for me to want to be active in it again. I also feel bad for the people who had spent hundreds of dollars on the game only to have it shut down so soon (compared to how long they had planned for it to last).
However free games are basically only there because they get supported by players who don't mind needlessly spending some money here and there because they are getting good entertainment value out of it and honestly compared to some other expenditures people make it turns out to be pretty insignificant.
I can say there's no way I'd ever spend over $100 on dust but it varies from person to person and hey, it's their money to spend. |

Again, money well spent on entertainment.
Again $$$ was never required to have fun in this game, spending real currency so you don't have to spend any isk on restocking on certain things is just another way of avoiding losing any isk in the end. I never had to spend money but i like the game and had a lot of fun so i thought spending money to get extra things was a good idea. Never regretted it.

No... I think the point was to ask those who DO see it as an investment, "why?" Hell, i'd love to know too because I see it the same as you. It's entertainment. Money in/entertainment out. Done. Move on. For those flooding the forum implying they were duped, or ripped off, I just don't get it.
