514.
We all went mad. We all died. We didn't have enough of our conciousness left for it to transfer.
The best part about it? Game's closing down in three months. 5-30. Honestly, I think it would have been amazingly clever to close the game down two weeks earlier. Have all the clones finally lose it on 5 14.
The thought that Dust 514 may one day be the game we dreamed it to be.

The leaders of New Eden drunk with power sent naive citizens to the surface telling them the future was in their hand, but the battles turned expensive and the leaders didn't want to give up their vacations and expensive parties. they formed a council in the dark hallways called the CPM they told the fighters that the CPM was their to help them get the supplies and equipment they needed to end the war on the surface. the fighters continued their honorable mission only to be deceived by the CPM and the Leaders in New Eden. The promises kept coming but no progress from the Leadership. Instead, the leadership cut off all communications and broke all ties to the surface. Thinking that this was a sign that the leaders were all working too hard to discuss the next generation of weapons and equipment the fought on spending all their ISK for the good of their leaders. Finally when all supplies were used and morale was at its worst the fighters begged to be ported, but it was to late as the leadership had moved away from the surface fighting because they felt the future was in virtual fighting. Soon the hero's that fought courageously for the cause were forgotten and ignored like DUST in the wind.

When.... i said When the new EVE FPS is released the story will start a new chapter Until then all merc are termed no beta no release means no game yet CCP has sometimes mislead us to believe things that are not true, so I'm not holding my breath on their promises anymore.

i have been wondering this.
what if the last few years has just been an accelerated traing program that happened in the blink of an eye, letting us train against eachother over and over while our physical bodies are in goo storage somewhere.
or we have just gone through all that virtually while they scanned our brains, and now they are about to terminate our originals in order to move our upgraded conciousness's to the clones and awaken us to reality.

Clones had a problem and, obviously, were infected with a severe case of space autism, a result of the incomplete new memory transfer technology. As a result the mercs only shitposted. It was so bad they had to be shot down.

All it would take it a virus written by one of the factions to get into the network and bye bye clones.

So freaky. I almost posted this exact Q the other day at lunch and got distracted. Awesome post~!
I'm curious if they are even entertaining RP/lore story lines to describe the sudden drop of merc clones across New Eden. Disease? Tech? I mean, in-game RP level stuff.
Could be exciting, in and of itself. Not that I ever read this stuff, but to be part of a potentially huge in-game cataclysm that wiped out a huge population? Neat!

Turns out the clones were all a bunch of pansies that preferred the safety of the red zone over the battle field... No one wants wimpy soldiers, so obviously government funding was scrapped. |

Make a permanent memorial site in New Eden with the names of the many DUST merc consciousnesses lost. Three free-floating pillars near some specific waypoint. One for Closed-BETA mecs, the second for Open-Beta, and the third for everyone else. Each race could have their own version of it, or each government recognizing that something has affected them equally so they agreed to erect a single monument somewhere in 0.0. A brief moment of peace, even if it is really just for political grandstanding. Then after, back to killing each other Something to at least give a nod to the players. In some way.
Only those that remained from 2013 until now without biomassing should be on that wall! No losers that ran away after Rouge Wedding.

Seeing as our names will more than likely be transferred, what might just end up happening is we all have to go into hiding, or go off the charts for a bit.
Perhaps the Concord Assembly, after the reintroduction of the Jovian member decides to terminate the use of cloned mercenaries on the ground. However despite their efforts we are a bit more clever, using our tools, skills, and wit to vanish from the scene.
Perhaps with the aid of a -certain- consortium that seems to have no issue using mercenaries like us, and would grab at a chance to gain the support of a legion of immortals.
Soon they will learn the mistake of trying to eliminate us. Soon they will all learn.

A virus, malfunction, etc. and our consciousnesses are uploaded to the cloud, awaiting new clone models that can withstand the virus, or don't have the malfunction.
And then those consciousnesses rise like a Phoenix.

Lore for DUST mercs moving forward will be easy to explain.
Having suffered a massive collective stroke from the lack of involvement by Amarr and Minmatar vehicle forces, tanks in particular, the P.I.E. Ground Forces clone army, led by one True Adamance lays waste to the Queens ramshackled pleasure cruiser. Among the items looted is the fabled "Disconnect All DUST Mercs" button that Jamyl Sarum had custom made just for her pleasure and often displayed right next to the royal golden d*ldo.
Intoxicated and feeling saucy, True Adamance presses the button. "That'll show'em, those tankless sons o' bGǪ"
The d*ldo was unharmed.
