As a guy who normally plays on PC, I had no problems just picking up Dust on PS3. Seems like most PC gamers are as mindless as the point and click shooters they play. And this is coming from an ex-PC gamer who also had no issues using a DS3 or a M/KB. Really though, this is a console game, moving to PC, where most current players would rather not play. Why attack the console players who are a little butthurt that a game they enjoy is moving to PC?
I think the idea was to suck it up and go to where the game is like the PC players did who had to buy a PS3 to play this three years ago. Segragating yourself into arbitrary camps of being a 'console gamers' or 'PC gamer' is the dumbest concept I've heard in gaming.
"We are console gamers, we dont just drop a ps controller and pickup a keyboard". Why the **** not? It makes no sense especially now that gaming platforms are so homogenous. |

"We are console gamers, we dont just drop a ps controller and pickup a keyboard". Why the **** not? It makes no sense especially now that gaming platforms are so homogenous. Because the communities are very different. PC gamers tend to be older, (im 30, and young for a PC gamer.) PC players also tend to have a "can't lose" attitude, spreadsheeting and powergaming, even going as far as creating hacks to win. While console gamers tend to be younger and more laid back, playing mainly to have fun rather than prove he has the biggest pixel-peen around. Not to say that console gamers are not competitive though.
That's a whole lot of generalisation that I don't believe to be correct. It's true that certain genres that attract more hardcore gamers only exist on PC (like tactical shooters and RTS etc), but there's so many kids casually playing around in CS or TF2 or Minecraft or Gmod and Battlefield these days. At that kind of level I haven't noticed any difference in the communities. |

Stop kidding yourself, no one is going to make a choice of platform based on what "current players" think. If it was reasonable, dust would not be dead by may. Apart from that it's pretty obvious that ccp failed ALSO because they decided to release on (old) console hardware. And if that's not enough, it's supposed to be a tactical game. You don't see ARMA or similar games on consoles, do you? You know why? because console players want COD ffs, not a "thinking man's shooter". Because they can't ******* aim (shots fired) Right, because the Tom Clancy games have done so horribly on consoles. Watch The Division be GotY, then tell me tactical shooters have no place on console.
I wouldn't classify The Division as a tactical shooter, but then again I wouldn't consider DUST a tactical shooter either. Tom Clancy series did away with the meat of tactical gameplay for over a decade (have yet to try Siege though). |

P14GU3 wrote: Ok call them "cover shooters" now, but they are a far-cry from the CoDs that you claim all console players want. I honestly haven't played a CoD since BlOps2, and have never played any multiplayer Halo. The truth is, there are a lot of ex-pc players, hardcore gamers, who play console now because it is simply a better experience. Games like ARMA are starting to come to consoles, and are being recieved quite well by the console community. Are there still casual kiddies who will pick up the next 12 graphic updated iterations of CoD in the millions? Of course, that wont change.
Some other guy said that, not me. And games like ArmA are not coming to console. Can you name me some? I legit would check them out.
I've found the opposite is happening, back in the day Operation Flashpoint, SOCOM, Ghost Recon Desert Storm etc existed on consoles as well as PC. Now there's pretty much nothing in that genre sadly. |

Truth is, we have yet to see a real "next gen" game released. Most of the games out right now started development on ps3 or a crude ps4 devkit. Devs are just now realizing what can be done with the current gen.
Haven't heard any rumors about ArmA 4 not even with a Google search, and Rust and Day Z are definitely not tactical shooters (Rust certainly isn't, it's as arcade as they come). They're survival games which is a new and interesting genre in it's own right.
Well if that's the case then this generation is super SLOW. They better get started then because it's already been over two years and I only expect five years before the PS5 is out. Hell, the next Nintendo console is already releasing this year.
Current tactical shooters I'd consider to be ArmA 3, Red Orchestra 2, Squad (which is FANTASTIC), Star Citizen FPS mode, Ground Branch and possibly Insurgency. |
