Soooooo theres this dude On YT that posted a few videos of him playing Dust on the oculus Rift. I'm not sure how legit this is but I give him props for trying either way.
Mind you, his gameplay is horrendous, and he is using starter fits (Go Figure)
But I was just joking about this idea the other day on a different thread. Playing Dust in VR.
This guy went and actually made it happen, I think.. Just watch and see.

Fail gameplay, but this time its with the Oculus and PSMove? https://youtu.be/RgUnS1xGBuA |

Just not going to work as you can see it's too difficult to track and center , the response time is far slower then someone using control sticks as you can also see.
It might be nice but try this against control users and you will get owned just like this guy did .
Not compatible unless you make the headset the vanilla controls .

At this point everything is working against him. He has low SP, he is using the move.
I say we should invite him into a slayer squad and support his attempts.
I could imagine him doing decent on a vehicle turret.
I also would try to reach out to him to help get him into a heavy suit. He's gonna need alot of HP for this.

The player just needs to stay with HMGs and Swarm Launchers.
If anything, we should send him a few million in game to encourage the poor fella.

Impressive. This looks like an ideal way to play with the PS Move. It's always been irksome how the crosshair doesn't 'perfectly' sync up with your move controller when pointing it at a screen. Now with an enclosed screen (VR Headset), between you and the controller that effect is diminished.
Bonus Feature: Not being distracted by the glowing blue ball for the IR camera to track.

I would get the game ( Val ) when it hits for the ps4 but living through the neglect of Dust , I just can't see myself supporting another CCP project .
It just breaks my heart with the neglect of the handling of THIS GAME , I can't see a rational reason to support anything else they produce .
I already turned my back on EA after their rehashing of their sports games ( besides FIFA ) and besides having Madden for my ps4 ( which I won't do again ) , I'm just done with these gaming companies that treat those who support them like sheep leading to the slaughter .

You're absolutely right. The only real problem is the delay between turning with the move and looking with the head movement.
Then all he needs is a sharpshooter attatchment for the move and it should feel right at home. |

There are thousands of people in the EVE: Valkyrie Alpha and almost no reports of motion sickness.
The issue is the lack of a frame of reference in First-Person-Shooters. In pretty much every other VR game, you either sit still or are inside of a cockpit that doesn't move, thereby giving your brain a frame of reference for the fact that your body isn't moving while the outside surroundings are.
You can't get that in an FPS. We all know what sitting still in a car while still moving at high speed is like, but when you're wearing a headset that is giving your brain visual and audio that say you're moving while the rest of your senses say you're sitting still, you're going to get motion sickness.
Personally I think it'd be sick as hell to play the game on PSVR with the PS Move Sharpshooter and get that full immersion feel, but the sad fact is that you run into the problem I stated of your senses providing conflicting information to your brain.
There have been some experiments that have found that rendering a "virtual nose" at the lower corner of each display can help give your brain a frame of reference for movement, and it might be possible to render a physical helmet that stays stationary while the outside moves to help combat the dissociation, but at this time that's still very much a work in progress.

That's a direction they're exploring to try and correct the gender disparity as well. Testing of VR tech has found that women are more susceptible to motion sickness when using it than men, and they're trying to figure out if that's due to an anatomical variation or males having more exposure to simulations or physical experiences like the ones INFINITE DIVERSITY mentioned.

We could be looking at FPS VR the wrong way. Everyone just kinda assumes that you would be aiming with your head, and while that works for 'seated' roles like GUNJACK, it likely won't hold up in a competitive FPS.
What VR could support is. 3d for one, giving true sense of depth (that in of itself is actually very important). Secondly controls could still be driven by your usual input like controller which would drive where your gun is pointing, but you still have the ability to look around freely with your head. It may not be 100% use of the available tech but if 100% is incompatible with an FPS style game then some sacrifices will need to be made.

its cool, but more interesting than practical.
im assuming it is still 2d, just projected onto a virtual big screen. this is no different than playing on a projector screen. but i am curious as to what program lets you import live video and "project it" without much discernable lag. that in itself is quite impressive.
i really dont think it would be that hard to offer 3d/180+degree video options in game. then the pc could do the rest.

Oh yeah its not 3d in this case. The ps3 is probably outputting to a PC which is duplicating the image and sending it to the rift to run both eyes, and then he's using move directly tied to the ps3 for controls.

The video also seems to move with his head, so either he is really good at timing the video splice, or its legit.

I was addicted to flying at one point so I love that and I'm from Illinois and we have a Six Flags with coasters that are nice but I get that mixed messages thing that was spoken about and that was how I was feeling before I blew chunks with the headset on.

Since Dust was not made for VR, I wouldn't really take this too serious. However, the fact that someone is at least trying to do this is intriguing. I noticed that they were in the Valkyrie alpha, and had alot of positive things to say about it.

Are you feeling ok?
You just made a lucid, coherent comment devoid of rambling, copious amounts of foul language, and poor grammar.
It's quite odd, and I hope you feel better soon.

First off, awesome find.
Second, props to the guy for trying.
Third, the problem with Dust and the Oculus Rift is that Dust 514 is not specifically designed for a full VR experience. Although Microsoft Flight Simulator X dates back to around 2010 and it somehow works seamlessly with the Oculus Rift.

Keep in mind that the development of the Oculus Rift didn't start until around 2012 and now we will see commercial release later this year (2016). This tells me that the Oculus Rift is flexible enough to work with even very old games and simulators. But to be honest, VR works best with flight sims like War Thunder, IL-2 Sturmovik, and Eve: Valkyrie.
