I also wish I had never played it.
I'm so conflicted about this game. Everything about it annoys the **** out of me and I never enjoy it, I just get angry, I hate the players, I despise the games controls, the illogical way the stats work in the game is infuriating. It's just not fun at all. People call it the "smart person's shooter" but quite frankly I don't see anything "smart" about it. It's just full of the same kind of people. The mechanics just make zero sense, the game is less about skill and more about what you really understand of the game, or if you're ******* lucky enough to have gotten used to the games unbelievably sub-par framerate.
And even so, I still WANT to enjoy this game. I WISH that I could. Every time I rage-delete Dust off my PS3, I feel sad because it could have been a better game. I'm relatively decent at the FPS games that I pick up, Rainbow Six, CoD, BF, Timesplitters, and the same with 3rdPS, like Transformers and Uncharted, yet with this game I ALWAYS do bad. But just a second ago I chose a new Combat Rifle, went 11/2, high on the leaderboard, felt like I accomplished something. Next game, same equipment, got ******* stomped.
I think that if the game didn't confuse me so much I wouldn't be so angered by it. Almost every game I sat there just thinking or shouting "HOW?!" as players effortlessly floor me, while I tickle them. I don't feel like it's a fair playing field either, due to the infinite number of stats and the poor connections and framerate. It's just not fair that I can't really explore my potential in this game.
I also hate the game because it's anti-solo. No, I don't believe FPS games should /ever/ focus on teamwork. I don't go out and get games just so I can rely on the pitiful intelligence of some tool halfway across the globe who isn't even holding the controller correctly. I should be allowed the privilege of running solo. I enjoy the aspect of teamwork, but there are days where I feel really introverted and I just couldn't care for interaction, I just want to ******* shoot ****. I also swear that the only people even playing this game now are Americans and it just leaves me at a disadvantage. I also really don't enjoy talking to Americans (because honestly, the only ones I come across sound like they just woke up and took a hit from a bong, the lack of energy in their voices makes me want to slit my throat, it's that depressing.)
I hope when (and if) Project Legion drops it'll have the same basic mechanics but just... executed better. I can't play this game, at all, it leaves me lost and confused. It's such a quirky game, and is one of those "acquired taste" kind of games, something I'm lacking. The never ending list of "POSSIBLE COOL SUIT LOADOUTS!" doesn't interest me in the slightest. I'm not of low intellect, but all this info just bores me, especially when it's ******* useless. There's so much **** about this game that just annoys me, the same kind of crap that's in other games, but it annoys me harder in this. Like I couldn't care less if my team aren't going for the objective in BF, I can usually do something about it myself and at least create an opening, but in Dust I NEED players around me or I just get DESTROYED. God it's so insufferable.
Either way, the negatives far outweigh the positives for me. I'm hooked, but it's not something I want to be hooked on. Dust is seriously a disappointment for me. It could have been so interested but just the gunplay ruins it. |

Damn,I didn't realize us Americans all sounded like stoners. Since you point that out I assume you play in Europe or wherever else this game has plagued. I suggest changing your server region preference to the closest possible region near you. They sound tired because it might be lunchtime for you but nearly midnight for them or later. Play at different times and don't expect to much from this game. Its the social aspect and experiences that make it fun.

Dad?
No really, i'm with you. I played eve, looked forward to this game when it was announced, wasn't going to play it because it was on PS3 only, and finally decided to play it because I had an excuse to buy a PS3 for my kids.
I started playing it one month before they made it an official release. I did not know where in its development it was at at the time. Probably if I had gotten a PS3 One year later I would not have played it after reading the reviews.
I can't help it though I loved the world that CCP has created although I do not like the gameplay for Eve online nor this game. For all the sandbox of eve online it is severely lacking in the things it could develop to make a more interesting game. As it is it is just like dust in that it whittles everything down to a small elitist player base of power players. The RPG aspect is lacking on both games and they really should just remove that part of the title.
I'm so sick of reading the lore rather than playing the lore. Shoddy game development not going very much beyond the basics and taking 10 whole years to develop everything that could be considered basic functionality make CCP a very bad game company.
That's why with both Eve and Dust I just can't move beyond piddling with the games to appreciate what mechanics have been developed. Though promising, neither are quite there. Eve is still in what I consider beta mode. I would have expected it to be where it is now five years ago at least.
I was right to suspect there'd be problems with DUST.

It could have been so interested but just the gunplay ruins it. The reason your experience of the game is so mixed and frustrating (as is mine) is that each game is totally dependent on the mix of people on each team, and the squads or lack thereof. I have great matches like you and just like you, the next one can be downright awful and I want to just ragequit.
I totally agree with you on pretty much everything you say. None of it is the way it really would or should be, were this to be for real. And of course there will be plenty who say it's just a game, but it's not a game that you can work out a way to be consistently good at, so the sense of achievement that's supposed to accrue from playing a good game is just not there, or at least if it is, just play a few more games, and you'll get rid of it.
I largely solo myself, and find myself more often than not seeing the squadding as "ganging up" - it's not an honest fight. While there's opportunity for good 1v1 fights, too often they're ruined by someone "coming to the rescue" of my opponent.
But just like you, I can't stop playing it.... |

I'm in Australia, tried "Automatic" which basicly means "Asia" for me. Nothing. Crickets. So I changed to America. I find games but then I don't deploy. I tried Europe. Sometimes I find games and deploy but I don't ultimately deploy as often as on the American server, so America it is. Even though I'm in Australia....
I know exactly what he means by Americans sounding like they're just woken up or doing drugs. Maybe they are. Who knows. The lag is a problem, no matter what server I connect to, and it's network lag, not input lag or disk lag. It's all to do with the distance to the servers.
Time of day doesn't seem to matter no matter what server I find matches on - there are people from all over on both the American and European servers, and there's usually noone at all on the Asian server, although briefly there was a day or so ago when it was the only one people could find a match on.
Changing servers won't help the stomping though. I've tried escaping the stomping by switching servers. They're everywhere. :) |

I love you. Thanks for saying all of the things that I feel as well.
Dust used to be the smart person's shooter, before jumping and before the movement penalties, at a time when you had to choose the best route between a given number of logical pathways. Now, all of that has been thrown out of the window as people hop around like acrobatic monkeys, surmounting obstacles and breaking all battle logic.

Try squading up, and learning to love working as a team. Also, be a D8CK when it comes to choosing guys to play with! If he sounds like he licks windows and wears a helmet on the short bus, he's out!
I know sometimes you just wanna shoot sh*t, but when I feel that way I DON'T get on dust! Dust isn't that shooter!
To give an incite to how I look at Dust514....
I get home, shower, eat, log into Eve, then..... brace myself.... get my mind into tactics, strategy, and economy mode....
I log into Dust!
I first read mails! As a corp director I must unfortunately attemp to help solve problems?! Now guys will tell you that I do NOT babysit! I here the problem, give a quick solution, and then you can fix it yourself with my solution or continue to b*tch, but it won't be to me! Most guys mail me with ideas, fits, or wtt/wts mails.
I check my warbarge, quickly browse fits, and then I may turn on a chat just to hear the noise.
I talk little, and mostly only when needed. So in the social aspect at times I can be just as introvert as yourself. To me this part sounds like you need a legit corp to run with lacking in their stock of idiots?
I have a schedule! Based upon PC's, what I need to work on, and testing experimental fits! So regardless this dictates my time on dust. If you just want to shoot sh*t then make a plan to just run Dom or bush, listen to loud music, and die alot! Once you come to terms with the circumstances of your wishes it makes more sense.
Stop caring about KD!
While it's cool to look at that's really all it is?! A number with no real value as this game is different from other FPS's. It doesn't mean you're good in dust if you have a high KD. As i'm sure you've noticed by now, it simply means you run a high kd role consistently (i.e. blaster tank, jumpy MD, sniper, etc.) where your team gets stomped often while you get high kd..... pause for the cause.... F*CK those guys!
OR!
You might have noticed the obviously ridiculous gap between one players dmg output, and another players. While some of that is weapon proficiency, as you may have noticed on some of the latest forum post, Dust is full of honor-less cheaters?! It's an unfortunate issue we deal with here, and due to the nature of the game it shows up here much more than in other shooters?!
How do you counter?
Teamwork! Management of personal economy! Not caring about dying because you're rich and it doesn't phase you lol!
In this game you're SUPPOSED to die! They made immortal just because they knew you were going to die. Why is everyone hell bent on the not dying part is beyond me?!
I get paid in Eve and Dust to die to make isk! That's the whole point lol! In Eve they have a thing called "Suicide ganking" lol! YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!
The question then becomes... what will you die for? Gained position on the battlefield is a good one! Dying holding down Bravo? YES! Dying to kill that tank raping your team? CHECK! Dying to take overwatch positions out? YES SIR!
The question shouldn't be "did I die?" The question should be "did I do my job?" If the answer is "YES!" Good!
That's why I have never claimed to be a slayer?! Everybody that claims it is usually running on an unstable economy of borrowing and begging for isk?! When I hear a guy say "I'm a slayer", I say to myself "Check! He likes the struggle" lol!
I play rock music, Eve, and Dust..... watch youtube, facebook it up, check the forums, etc.
You can't enjoy dust sir because you're trying to play battlefield?! You have to play dust!
Yes, the framerate, glitches, modders, and lag are infuriating to say the least, but aside from that the concept is A1.
Hope this helps bro o7

Before I answer this bit, I should state that telling someone who solos to "squad up" is like telling someone who likes riding a bike to play tennis. There's a reason we don't squad - we like to solo, and we don't like to have to fit with other people's playing style. And we shouldn't have to. We should be able to play this game as solos without getting stomped because we have the temerity to do without help of a squad.
But about the honourless cheaters. It's not about what the counter is. It's about the fact that they're there at all! It ruins the game for me. The idea that cheating can go on being unpunished, to the point where the techniques used become standard exploits just turns me right off the game. Ever time I see anything like it, I turn off the console. EVERY time. I just don't tolerate it.
In EvE, exploits are not tolerated - they're punished if someone is found using them, and they are eliminated from the game at the first opportunity. How are exploits (cheats) dealt with in Dust? They're not.
THIS is why I feel my days playing Dust are numbered. |
