I'm so conflicted about this game. Everything about it annoys the **** out of me and I never enjoy it, I just get angry, I hate the players, I despise the games controls, the illogical way the stats work in the game is infuriating. It's just not fun at all. People call it the "smart person's shooter" but quite frankly I don't see anything "smart" about it. It's just full of the same kind of people. The mechanics just make zero sense, the game is less about skill and more about what you really understand of the game, or if you're ******* lucky enough to have gotten used to the games unbelievably sub-par framerate.
And even so, I still WANT to enjoy this game. I WISH that I could. Every time I rage-delete Dust off my PS3, I feel sad because it could have been a better game. I'm relatively decent at the FPS games that I pick up, Rainbow Six, CoD, BF, Timesplitters, and the same with 3rdPS, like Transformers and Uncharted, yet with this game I ALWAYS do bad. But just a second ago I chose a new Combat Rifle, went 11/2, high on the leaderboard, felt like I accomplished something. Next game, same equipment, got ******* stomped. .......
Either way, the negatives far outweigh the positives for me. I'm hooked, but it's not something I want to be hooked on. Dust is seriously a disappointment for me. It could have been so interested but just the gunplay ruins it. The reason your experience of the game is so mixed and frustrating (as is mine) is that each game is totally dependent on the mix of people on each team, and the squads or lack thereof. I have great matches like you and just like you, the next one can be downright awful and I want to just ragequit.
I totally agree with you on pretty much everything you say. None of it is the way it really would or should be, were this to be for real. And of course there will be plenty who say it's just a game, but it's not a game that you can work out a way to be consistently good at, so the sense of achievement that's supposed to accrue from playing a good game is just not there, or at least if it is, just play a few more games, and you'll get rid of it.
I largely solo myself, and find myself more often than not seeing the squadding as "ganging up" - it's not an honest fight. While there's opportunity for good 1v1 fights, too often they're ruined by someone "coming to the rescue" of my opponent.
But just like you, I can't stop playing it.... |

I suggest changing your server region preference to the closest possible region near you. They sound tired because it might be lunchtime for you but nearly midnight for them or later. Play at different times and don't expect to much from this game. Its the social aspect and experiences that make it fun. No, catz, that doesn't work.
I'm in Australia, tried "Automatic" which basicly means "Asia" for me. Nothing. Crickets. So I changed to America. I find games but then I don't deploy. I tried Europe. Sometimes I find games and deploy but I don't ultimately deploy as often as on the American server, so America it is. Even though I'm in Australia....
I know exactly what he means by Americans sounding like they're just woken up or doing drugs. Maybe they are. Who knows. The lag is a problem, no matter what server I connect to, and it's network lag, not input lag or disk lag. It's all to do with the distance to the servers.
Time of day doesn't seem to matter no matter what server I find matches on - there are people from all over on both the American and European servers, and there's usually noone at all on the Asian server, although briefly there was a day or so ago when it was the only one people could find a match on.
Changing servers won't help the stomping though. I've tried escaping the stomping by switching servers. They're everywhere. :) |

Bradric Banewolf wrote:You might have noticed the obviously ridiculous gap between one players dmg output, and another players. While some of that is weapon proficiency, as you may have noticed on some of the latest forum post, Dust is full of honor-less cheaters?! It's an unfortunate issue we deal with here, and due to the nature of the game it shows up here much more than in other shooters?!
How do you counter?
Before I answer this bit, I should state that telling someone who solos to "squad up" is like telling someone who likes riding a bike to play tennis. There's a reason we don't squad - we like to solo, and we don't like to have to fit with other people's playing style. And we shouldn't have to. We should be able to play this game as solos without getting stomped because we have the temerity to do without help of a squad.
But about the honourless cheaters. It's not about what the counter is. It's about the fact that they're there at all! It ruins the game for me. The idea that cheating can go on being unpunished, to the point where the techniques used become standard exploits just turns me right off the game. Ever time I see anything like it, I turn off the console. EVERY time. I just don't tolerate it.
In EvE, exploits are not tolerated - they're punished if someone is found using them, and they are eliminated from the game at the first opportunity. How are exploits (cheats) dealt with in Dust? They're not.
THIS is why I feel my days playing Dust are numbered. |

But I'm curiously not. Idk. Nor was I offended. Just making an observation on ignorance. For the record I didn't think it was anything about race. "American" is not a race. It's perhaps a state of mind. :) |
