I'd hope this change would not be impossible and it makes life easier for low skilled pilots and those with SP invested. No. Keep slots the same and only do fitting space. It's perfect as it is now. An extra primary slot would actually make fittings a tiny bit different and fun though. Plus spending an extra million ISK per ship, you kinda want a little extra flexibility.

It might honestly break balance if you put an extra high slot for the python, and definitely the inky would be nigh unstoppable. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see my craft get the justice it deserves, but if you're not careful, the age of aerial destruction will return, which would result in them getting molestered by those CCP and AV nerds. ADS are kind of self regulating though because all it takes is a single AV incubus in the sky and the other team can't do anything in the air till they take you out. The more AV in the sky, the less groundies dying to sky farms.

They did away with it for suits so there's no reason for different tiers of vehicles to have different slots. How many slots do suits have?
It comes down to having so little slots means stagnation of fits, which means boring gameplay. More slots = more fits = more fun, even if you have to lower base stats to make up for it.
