Not only that but it has the same model and hitbox as a heavy with a different color scheme. ok go try to hold the under cover letter in PC with Your heavy commando and see what the difference is. Why would I do that when I can just stay on the catwalk? because fighting from from the catwalks is a good way to never win a PC So are you suggesting that the Commandos go to the undercover letter?

For a beginning Heavy player, each of the sentinels and the commandos has it's own distinct playstyle. "pick generic heavy here" doesn't work. While they do similar jobs, they go about it in completely different ways. For a beginner, one size fits all mentality gets you pasted. badly.
Amarr Sentinel: Stand and deliver. Use the heavy plates. for a beginner, two plates and two reps is a good learning point. Don't use proto. If you are fired upon and you cannot get to cover immediately, you are engaged. You cannot run away. You can only soak punishment and attempt to kill whomever is being annoying. Any time you are in combat in an amsent, you have to treat it as a situation where you are committed. You will never be able to get away long enough to recover. More than any other dropsuit, amsent is "kill or be killed."
Amarr Commando: You have two weapon choices: Scrambler Rifles and Laser Rifles. You are a mobile fire support and suppression platform that can easily double as a door kicking assault in close support with a squad. For this fit, a plate, a rep, and a cardiac reg with two light damage mods is the way to go. Kincats aren't going to save you, as a galassault with no kincats can still outrun you regardless. Amarr Commandos take the stand and deliver to a similar level of the Sentinel. But I recommend a laser rifle and an assault scrambler. The laser will thoroughly freak people out at range, and the scrambler, with good trigger control and heat management, can absolutely butcher anyone stupid enough to be in your sights, in optimal for more than a second or two.
Gallente Sentinel: This one's a pain in the ass for a lot of players. It's faster than the Amarr and almost as tanky. But it doesn't brick up well, so most people don't use them in competitive play because they derive less benefit from the logi leash. If you run solo a good strategy is either ferroscale plates, a rep and a kincat or full plate and two reps or reps and cardiac regs. Again, you're not outrunning anyone (except an amsent) so don't bother trying. Gallente can nominally repair faster without repair mods, but to fully capitalize I'd recomment fitting a pair of reps and a mobility aid. Two damage mods in the highs can definitely mean the difference between life and death. This is the armor suit that does NOT do well sitting in one spot for long, at all.
Gallente Commando: Fit this bastard with kincats or regulators and reps, load the damage mods and do not try to fight long range. You will absolutely eat people at close range, and a Plasma cannon or shotgun (don't laugh) can be absolutely deadly as a counterpoint to a breach or standard AR. Gallente commandos are almost as fast as similar assaults, and unlike the sentinels, they can move at a fair clip. They also have the fastest native armor regen without a rep module. I recommend a rep module, because you're going to take damage. Loadout is usually going to be some combination of a plasma cannon, Assault rifle or shotgun. Shotguns on kincat loaded galmandos in city sockets run by competent players are "brown trouser syndrome" inducing.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

This is good advice. Although, even at Level 5, it still takes approximately 30 minutes to reload. |

I'd hardly call it redundant. Dropping the recharge delay from 4s to just under 2.5s is great for ducking and out of cover or recharging between engagements. You can be full recharged in the time it takes to reload your HMG.

I find heavies hard to play. Big hit box and slow movement makes those suits big death traps. |

Cheers in advance!
If you have a good gun game i'd suggest amarr with bottles and/or damps.

I personally like the Gallente because like the Amarr, it can stack hp, and has resistance to rail and projectile, BUT, it also comes with a high base rep (more rep) and 2 high slots for damage. So if you wanna go armor solo, fit a galsent with 3 reps, 2 damage, and assault hmg, or even burst. Or whatever else you want, I have an AV fit with PLasma cannon since there's no heavy gallente weapon.
Caldari and minmatar are good too but when the flux hits, they are dead meat.
Amarr is too slow with too low rep o be a solo heavy. This is exactly why you should go gal sentinel. Alex hmg+3 six kin reps on your back= GOD MODE.. it's addicting. AND.. tell your logi to make a commando rep. He won't be disappointed.. But no needles on that so you'll need another logi with needles but the commando can be right on your back taking fire, and the small logi preferably min logi can hang back a little waiting to needle. Its not about Kdr when heavy.. Its about winning the game, just having unlimited power.. And not dying and losing all your isk or Alex hmg..... Happy heavying! Caldari heavy is absolutely garbage.. Please don't be Caldari.. I Can flux and ion pistol any Caldari heavy in this game then have some fun with his logi friend Any caldari heavy huh? I'm gonna have fun looking for you :) FYI caldari heavies are very very powerful in the right hands.
I carry fluxes on my calsent just to flux myself.

I love both the HMG and the forge gun.
I recommend that every player become proficient in the Forge Gun, it's a dynamic weapon that can devastate any enemy; regardless of your ultimate intentions. And if you're playing as a heavy, you'll need as many options as you can get.
You may also want to try the laser rifle, even though some would consider it passe to use a light weapon in a heavy slot.
