To be perfectly honest, starting out, a slayer role is not a good place to start to get SP for better gear. It's going to suck, but you really shouldn't give a damn about your K/DR. Especially if you want SP. Once you've got the SP and gear you can very easily work your K/DR back to a reasonable amount. When I started this character (an alt) I was getting five or six kills a match at most, and dying upwards of ten times. Now that I've got the SP to have most things to Advanced, I'm managing 15+ kills and generally less than 8 deaths. Of course, I'm not the type to care about my K/DR, so I will run purposely into stupid situations to save a teammate, or help push an objective. The more active guns you have on the field, the better your chances of a win. So while I try to stay alive, the match won't be won if you play it safe constantly.
My personal opinion, if you want SP quickly so you can get to be actually good at the game, go either the Scout or Logi route. Just starting out, uplinks are going to be the fastest and safest way to gain SP, and you don't even have to do anything. Just dropping two uplinks on the field nearby an objective, I get a minimum of 800 WP a match, and average 6k SP per battle. So get your uplinks up to advanced and you'll be getting the SP for gear very quickly. If you can hop into a decent squad, going rep tool logi is an amazing way to get SP, but you're in more danger since youre directly in battle, and much squishier than your teammates. When I went rep logi, I averaged over 15k SP per battle and 2k WP. Much more in meat grinder domination matches. If I joined a squad now with proto rep tools I could probably get the SP back I spent putting into rep tools in less than a week. And more.
I promise you, while shooting people may be the main draw of the game for many people, you aren't going to do a good job shooting anything unless you either do the frustrating grind, or you ride the support role until you're at a comfortable SP level and want to try slaying again.
The thought that Dust 514 may one day be the game we dreamed it to be.
It fills you with Determination!
