id be 4 it, it could allow some new map designs with jumping height verticality in mind. but ccp wont do anything beyond the bare minimum when it comes to new content

I believe this has been said before (your idea), and as I said that time, THIS SHOULD HAPPEN!!!!!
Its nice idea, it would add a lot of new strategies, new challenges and amazing gameplay... if its done right, otherwise... |

If I remember correctly this was one of the original ideas of the socket design for maps.
i.e the maps would have the sockets you are familiar with, and additional potential for environmental effects (like the fog, dust, etc), and perhaps additional effects that would impact game play (such as planets where heat buildup was increased or decreased by a %). Gravity was one of those planned additional effects.
It was dropped because... and again my recollection may be flawed... due to not really being a meaningful enough mechanic (at the current iteration). Namely nobody jumped that well, so it was considered unimportant.
The other concern now was that it could potentially just ruin suits (as is the intent) with no way for the player to really do anything about it. As a corollary, imagine a planet that rendered Armor suits useless (armor hp reduced by 50% for example) and how that would impact your game play. Would you find it enjoyable if your 'main' suit became useless once every X matches with no way for you to change it?
Edit: Note I like this idea of gravity, I am just playing devil's advocate for the purposes of game design.
