So can someone tell me why our player numbers are so low. I recently went on dustboard.com and was amazed by how many mercs are born every day. As of now active mercs being tracked is over 9.6 million. But some are reborn and a lot are inactive or retired. But really that is a crazy number, is it eve players mixed in? Can anyone chime in on this matter on why we don't have a bigger player base?

I am sure many reasons can be thrown out to explain why player retention for this game is so low but I have one reason that stands out to me...
...this game mentions nothing about the lore of each faction nor does it give you any real background information on what the **** is going on...
Dust514 is a very unique game but the majority of that uniqueness is missed out on by new players because they get stomped into quitting the game before they have a chance to figure out what is going on.
CCP needs to introduce little 3 or 4 paragraph stories with an interesting, eye-catching picture that explains either different events that have occurred in New Eden or explains specific details about the factions.

If this dustdoard.com is at all apart of the servers that run the game its no wonder why we have lag! Is there anyone out there that has not looked at this? Hundreds of mercs a day being created but who is playing!

I totally agree summa! This game has taken me almost a year to totally understand, but now I love it. So many variables are involved in it! Its not a easy game to jump into, but that's why we have the people here that we do. This is not for everyone and that's why I like it. I think it is still the most advanced fps out there. If it would run smooth and not have all the strings attached with glitches and such more would be on board.
But honestly I think it takes a select group of players that actually give this game credit!

You seriously belive low player count is due to them not explaining lore such as minmatar being slaves? Or not hearing about events they missed... Like the million clone challenge?

Player base is low because:
1) Basically no marketing 2) Problematic development 3) No NPE 4) Bad player retention 5) It's on a last-gen console 6) Game just isn't designed well

Use http://eve-offline.net/ run by Chribba, Eve Legend. We get over 3 grand 'round the clock', so it's alot more than that, in total, as the world turns. The few hours before downtime are the quietest (US Late Late Late Show Time).
The busiest time is when the Weekly Skill Cap resets. I would personally love to remove the cap, to see everyone in a Skill Frenzy (like me), but that wouldn't be fair to Weekend Warriors, and people with lives.

This game has great retention for as old as it is the only other game that I know of that kept an active player base this long was dark souls one which is nothing to scoff at. I just came back to the game I can only take so much because there are normally balance issues not that the game isn't amazing. I think last time I left was because the devs gave into the destiny fan boys and added halo jump witch I found totally redick I have not ran into any since I have been back.
As for the guys complaining about no lore go play an rpg lol. Do you think your some sort of politician nancy boy your not paid to think you are payed to fight. When they end up coming out with a sequel they were talking about much more integration with eve so they may add something then.
Edit: console game I meant.

People get hung on on the concurrent number, always have. As if that's our entire player base.
The number of people that actively log on during a month is considerably higher than most would give credit for and massively exceeds the numbers using the forums, which only a few percent.
Occasionally CCP Rattai will give an updated figure on the forums for log ins. We'll poke him about do so again in the near future.

Clearly this is all the more reason to port the game to PC or next gen.
I feel there is a substantially larger pool of players that would play this game, if only it was more polished, bugs ironed out and performance increased. These are things that really could be done with a port.

Over 3000 players, at any given moment, (apart from downtime) must mean closer to 20,000 or 30,000, at least, through the day. That's a good number, plus the social aspect that only Eve and Dust have, In fact, it's greatest strength,(which we take for granted),where old friends catch up after a break. There's some stuff to iron out, but people keep coming back, for some reason. Me included. I do recommend a break, though, from all video 'sport'. |
