Why is it that when i shoot someone on dust (ive been playing for four days now...) that it takes me like 30 hit markers to kill them but for them it only takes like 2 shots to connect and I die (ive been 2 shotted with rail guns before and seen snipers do 1700+ to me as well in ONE shot...I frankly dont see how to make this happen even with light weapon daamge ups and a 210 dmg sniper)....even in a heavy suit i die super quick....and ive even encountered this with light suits.....i have no choice but to use crap weapons to start with since im starting as explosives specialist...btw my proxy mines NEVER blow up when someone is even ON TOP of them??? wtf is that crap about.,,,,,ive tried to detonate them and cant....i stick them in hallways that people DO go through and nothing...they just walk right past them and kill me from behind....and ALL exits are covered with them so i know for a fact they are walking past them....am I missing something? this game has alot of potential...but thats just it for now...potential...im about to give up and not play it anymore because if its not one thing its another...this game needs A CRAP TON of work if you ask me (higher sensitivity #1, militia weapons that are actually fair...and much more)....its unplayable and i dont see how to get kills unless you spend 909132485091328 hours dying to make a fitting good enough to actually kill something....im not asking for an instant response to being able to kill someone...but four days 12 hours a day and still going 0-12 MOST games?....i dont get that ****...i shoot them more accurately than they shoot me 90% OF THE TIME!!! YET I STILL DIE!! this is NOT right if you ask me....you should be rewarded for good acc not killed.....ive tried hmg ive tried assault rifles ive tried smgs ive tried rail guns....nothing seeems to work....is militia gear SERIOUSLY this under powered or what?! Ive only bought sniper rifles non militia and havnt really seen anything to impressive about them either...and another thing...why dont you see hit markers for shield shots? LAME...it should be a yellow hit marker then armor should be red....I pick battles smart and know when to encounter and realize this games alot different than COD (which i typically play and ****) I shouldnt suck this much at this game judging by my general skill level on COD (btw I have a 12 w/l ratio on squads if this helps tell you anything about my COD skills...)....is there anything anyone can help me out with ....ive recent adapted to hip firing more often since ADS is fricken turtle paced in this game....is it worth losing the acc? |

Well, the only thing I can tell you is that there are no claymore type weapons in dust. Proximity explosives are actually meant for anti-vehicle and not anti-infantry, and as such, will not trigger until a vehicle comes near them. Remote explosives on the other hand are used for both, but must be manually triggered.
Edit: also, careful with rage posts or rants, as they can get your thread locked fairly quickly. |

Use the assault hmg, speck into standard light weapons. Milita gear is next to garbage unless you've played enough call of duty on hardcore mode to make headshots and aiming properly to actually score kills with them. If you wanna be a explosive specialist there's the milita mass driver. Those 1700+ damage sniper rifles are from the headshot multiplier plus damage mods and prof bonus plus warbarge and maybe if they are wearing the caldari commando.
Tldr. Assault hmg is king. Milita sucks. Milita mass driver will make do. Sniper rifles need a huge amount of skill points to work. Any more questions?

Pro tips. Just get some nanohives unlocked. Buy milita mass drivers and use that with your free front line suits to save money to buy skill books.
Save skill points. Upgrade armour, sheilding and the cores first. Focus on a single weapon and a sidearm that fits you. BUY AURUM(JK) And keep away from the fight, don't wanna blow yourself up,and you'll have such low HP as it its so if one of them proto stompers so much as throw a Kleenex at you, you'll die.

Where to start... First off take everything COD and take it right to the window and throw it out.
This is DUST where you will get stomped repeatedly especially on a character with next to zero Skill points, also known as SP, you will just not have the damage to go head to head with anyone who has been playing longer than you pretty much.
Light suits are not your friend if you are trying to fight toe to toe.
Proxy mines only work on vehicles.
Militia is not fair or meant to be fair. it is the practically free gear for people with no SP.
yes there are many base problems with dust least of all the sensitivity.
and 4 days is no time in dust at all. I've been here since alpha and I'm only a little over 46 million SP with is no where near being skilled into everything. So yes you will suffer.
First real tip get in a learning corp or corp who will help you. D-UNI is nice they have old player who are still there to help and new players experiencing the same thing you are,
Second if you don't have a mic think about getting one if you are considering staying it will help, in short comms helps a lot.
Third squad up you will need team work to excel.

Im down with all this...a mic is out of the question however...i dont have money....i havnt for months....i live free and get whatever who i live with buys me for doing work around the house like construction and dishes and computer hardware/software fixes.....i have ads up on the internet for help with fixing computer to ACTUALLY get paid but its not working(I dont advise doing this most people out there for computer work are just scammers!)....im resorting to hacking things to make money any more....and its awefully hard to do with a fried gpu that over heats a computer every 2 seconds after starting it to 5 minutes of it running and the other four computers in this house are in utter death modes with virus (none of these mofos are mine or else they would run smoothly!!) Ive even looked into putting windows on the PS3 but that would be a HELLA big mistake lol...plain and simple this is just a game for me to destress from not being able to do **** all day that needs to be done like writing scripts for my hacking crap....its pretty sad i have to hack to make money anymore but moi dornt mind it :P lease when the scripts are done ill be making 100k + a year maybe more....anyways....thanks for the help people...im off to go die for the next 13 hours... |

Explosives...ok.
You can bait people into traps, shoot at someone and back off from them. drop an RE and when they round the corner detonate it.
Proximity don't work very well, if you want to kill a vehicle i suggest a Plasma cannon, but occasionally you can lay good proximity traps if you see LAV's cruising in "cities" which are just the large enclosed areas.
You can throw a grenade, but can you run into a group of enemies while cooking it until it blows your hand off?

1. You really need to take everything you type and break it down into paragraphs; presentation is very important.
2. Join the corporation Dust University and start running in a squad with people in that corporation. I have learned that at least 90% of the people when they first start playing this game need guidance from a corporation.
3. I also played COD before playing this game and I was a beast at COD (my record time for going 30-0 in Free-For-All is 54 seconds). This game is much more complicated and requires a lot more strategy than COD will ever demand from its playerbase. I'm not going to suggest you forget everything you learned in COD because those skills will come in handy later on in this game, but for right now it will best not to apply any COD strategy to this game.
4. Invest your SP wisely. I was very smart with my SP investment when I first started playing this game and because of that I avoided a lot of headaches that other people had to deal with. I recommend picking 1 Weapon and 1 Dropsuit to designate as your "bread n' butter" and primarily focus your SP in what is called Core Skills. Core Skills are essentially the skills that make your overall dropsuit better.
5. Since you are new and you are running Militia Gear I would suggest never trying to engage in combat with someone by yourself. When I first started I always made sure to stay close to my teammates and to help them kill whoever it is they are trying to kill. In the beginning for me to actually kill a redberry took a miracle but I was able to get a lot of kill assists rather easily so what I did was I looked at kill assists as an achievement in its own right and if at any point I actually did get a kill then I simply viewed that as a extra little moment to be happy about.
6. This game is awesome. |

Dust514 & The Blueberry Blues...
The early day's are the worst, but stick with it, as it does get better... a lot better!....
Tips:
Skill Tree - Things to do first.
Drop Suit Core - Level 2
Dropsuit Upgrades - Level 2 Shield / Armour Upgrades - Level 2
Shield Extension / Armor Plating - Level 1
Nanocircuitry - Level 2 (the compact nanohive will repair armor & give you ammo! - this thing can save your life....)
Drop Uplink Deployment - Level 2 (pads means team spawns, which means points for you! Only one pad at a time. Level 3 pads allow you to drop 2 at a time...)
The rest of you SP now goes on Core Upgrades / Dropsuit Electronics & Engineering...
As you progress up the levels, you will be able to add more shield and armor modules. When you have these two at level 4, you can then begin to look a leveling up, shield ext / armor plates to level 3...
After that, you can upgrade suit modules / weapon etc etc...
...
Ok next.... what to wear?...
If your dead, you can't earn points quick enough and everything you have is rubbish...
Except!
The Amarr Frontline with the Assault Scrambler rifle. This is your standard suit, imo. The weapon is powerful, it has range and the suit your wearing can be tanked with basic plates, which will make you slow, but you'll be alive for longer... Couple that with, 'stick with a teammate' and you'll be better off all round...
(imo) scouts, sentinel, logis are too role specific. You need to just worry about staying alive longer between deaths in the first few months. Stick to the basic/assault fits...
...
Game play...
At the start of each game, you hack everything in your path. A hack is the same points as a kill, so hack everything, if it's not your teams, hack it...
If you see a spawn pad or nanohive of the other teams, smash it (punch, rather than shoot, takes less time or need to aim)
You can't win the round for your team, but you can help. Cleaning up all the loose ends, goes a long way to doing that...
Once the round really kicks in, watch your back, stick with a buddy and pray... Retreat is not a dirty word! Range is your friend.
Getting wrecked and redlined will happen, it is a fact of Dust... Don't worry about it... (or try not to anyway)
Sniping... You will have to do this at some point, just to stay alive. Get good at it. Crouch, settle, (release left stick to stop the wobble), aim, get the headshot multiplier and boom, that clone is dead...
The basic sniper rifle is all you need. Aim for the head, always aim for the head. A headshot will take down all but the best, or heaviest of suits. I use the free Caldari Protectorate suit with the CovenantSR and it works just fine....
...
Stick with it, everyone is better than you...
When you see the weapon and suit that killed you, you'll know it was better than the one your wearing or using, so take heart from that and it won't feel so bad...
Domination Mode I personally play this more than any other. Because it single point objective, it means you learn the maps, style of game play and the scrub tactics, quicker. Which, when you know what to expect, really helps in the early months...

People being lynched , separate bathrooms , schools and treatment in society ... raped and murdered , have you ever seen Rosewood .?. it's a true account of what happened in a town in Florida among other movies , books and what's now omitted from history books in the states .
Please don't compare such a small thing as a video game and nonsense that occurs therein to true accounts and unfair treatment on top of the dreaded issues that the U.S. had pre-60's .
The man had courage and face unspeakable things that couldn't even compare to a frackin video game nor what many in these times now wouldn't be able to face in a non violence setting and if you try too say , " But I'm black ." , that would just show how out of touch the youth are in the states .

Swap your controls to the Duty Calls controller setup - this will make the controls the same as the call of duty controls. A bit of familiarity will help.
Additionally, lower your sensitivity down to around 25 on both x and y, dust has very small aim assist. adjust up as you get the hang of it.

Unfortunately for beginners that is actually the way the game is designed, hitherto it's greatest strength and also it's greatest weakness. As you progress in your RPG style leveling you do more damage or take more damage unlike other shooter where you just unlock a new ability with each level. Here you must balance what you want to unlock with what you want to equip and the options are huge. You opponents may have proto armor plates and proto damage mods and an officer gun doing 2000 dps and level 5 proficiency in that gun adding 15% more damage, the beginner has maybe 1 basic plate and a basic shield extender or two that adds maybe a 100 total shields and armor plus a gun that does 500 dps and maybe proficiency 1 that adds 3% damage, I think you get the points.
I'm actually very sorry about this but DUST is special because of all these factors(true MMORPG leveling and economy based fitting system). We need and hopefully want new players but this game is not intended to favor the beginner(or the solo player btw). You may also be facing grouped players that have scanner specialist who see you coming or scouts who you can't detect who can easily flank you and are faster too. Again the idea of Dust is a marathon not a sprint, great twitch shooter skills can help you in this game but even they don't guarantee success.
I said a long time ago when we had more players we needed a tier based match making system but it may have been too late then. Now we have to deal with unbalanced and op officer gear that the big corps trade amongst themselves and go out and stomp noobies in pubs with. I do think this game is worth it if you stick with it, I have 750 day of consecutive login thats 6000 sp per day times 750 that I have over you without even including how much I've gained by playing matches. Iv'e also respected a few times so my skills would be optimal for killing players or helping kill players no matter which role I need to run to help win a game. I say you should counter by playing with friends, finding a active corp, and studying how to progress properly from the internet and some trust worthy people you meet in corp. In the right situation you can succeed and you deserve our respect if you learn to put yourself in spots where you can. People might troll you a little if you fail at 1st but if you choose to persist and you've tried your best you will already be better than them and no amount of k/d or warpoints can ever make that untrue.

Athos YHWH wrote:Why is it that when i shoot someone on dust (ive been playing for four days now...) that it takes me like 30 hit markers to kill them but for them it only takes like 2 shots to connect and I die (ive been 2 shotted with rail guns before and seen snipers do 1700+ to me as well in ONE shot...I frankly dont see how to make this happen even with light weapon daamge ups and a 210 dmg sniper)....even in a heavy suit i die super quick....and ive even encountered this with light suits.....i have no choice but to use crap weapons to start with since im starting as explosives specialist...btw my proxy mines NEVER blow up when someone is even ON TOP of them??? wtf is that crap about.,,,,,ive tried to detonate them and cant....i stick them in hallways that people DO go through and nothing...they just walk right past them and kill me from behind....and ALL exits are covered with them so i know for a fact they are walking past them....am I missing something? this game has alot of potential...but thats just it for now...potential...im about to give up and not play it anymore because if its not one thing its another...this game needs A CRAP TON of work if you ask me (higher sensitivity #1, militia weapons that are actually fair...and much more)....its unplayable and i dont see how to get kills unless you spend 909132485091328 hours dying to make a fitting good enough to actually kill something....im not asking for an instant response to being able to kill someone...but four days 12 hours a day and still going 0-12 MOST games?....i dont get that ****...i shoot them more accurately than they shoot me 90% OF THE TIME!!! Word wall will not get you anywhere.
Snipers get headshot multiplier I.E. damage bonus like ALL weapons do. You probably got shot in the face.
This game functions like an RPG. You need to skill into this to make them BETTER.
You suck but keep at it. And don't EVER play alone if you are trying to be a slayer.

Everybody rather become an English teacher than just answer your question, welcome to the forums. Here is your real problem, you've been playing for 4 days and everything your using will not be as good as many others that have had time to upgrade their gear. For example, you said that you use an HMG (max HMG power takes millions of skill points to upgrade), you don't have the time yet put into the game to have millions of SP yet. Long story short your under powered atm compared to other who have been playing longer. Learn about the skill tree and learn what it all means, always keep moving (strafe) and NEVER COME TO THE FORUMS WHEN YOUR STILL VERY ANGRY. Good luck bro o7

Additionally, lower your sensitivity down to around 25 on both x and y, dust has very small aim assist. adjust up as you get the hang of it.
25 SENSITIVITY! What are we balancing cups of tea? 100 Sensitivity is the way to go on everything.
