5 games played this morning.
5 losses. 5 unbalanced team games. 5 protostomper games. 3 redline games.
It's just not fun anymore. If you're lucky, you might get one good game. But in a quick session, fat chance.
Maybe it's bad luck, but I can't seem to catch a break in even these losing games. More deaths to grenades or indirect fire, shooting plasma cannons into groups of 3 on the point and getting 0 kills then headshot sniped, tank rail cannon sniping from redline nails me while killing a pro suit toe to toe.
Just been one of those days I guess... ******!

Agreed. As a game mode its fine, it exists in so many FPS games. A single point capture doesn't have inherent flaws. It works in all kinds of games. It doesn't work so well in Dust because of surrounding mechanics.
Rooftop camping/inaccessible spawns above points, mass drivers, grenade/hive spam and stomps make domination a very easy mode to take advantage of.
I notice far less protostomping in other game modes and fewer squad stomps. I think the majority of stomp squads gravitate towards domination because it is the easiest to farm in.
You can let the other team cap the point and just slaughter them down to clone cap, I see it happen all the time. A stomp squad will purposefully avoid the point until the enemy team has about half of their clones left. Then they'll cap the point and farm down the rest of the blueberries, maxing their rewards.
TL;DR - Domination sucks with Dusts features and mechanics. |

The only reason it sucks is because of a bad matchmaker. And camping. Don't forget the camping. Camping is a legitimate tactic that is employed by real armies in real wars. And where I come from, they don't call it camping, they call it overwatch. Real armies in real wars don't obligingly send in 16 man teams to meet 16 man teams over specified areas and wait for their soldiers to get a 'score' before airstriking. They airstrike the hell out of everything and then send in overwhelming force and armour. Now, why isn't this in DUST? Because it isn't good gameplay.
First 5 minutes of every game is map wide orbital bombardments... What running around in that lag fest dying endlessly wouldn't be fun?!

The best games I've had in Dust and the worst games I've had in Dust have both been in Domination. Playing domination is like reverse Russian roulette. Most games games you blow your brains out, but every once in awhile *click* and you have a great game. |

I love all the customizability in Dust, thats what makes it unique. Being able to create your own role is what makes merc a merc.
But I just can't help but feel some games would never include certain features with the way the maps are set up. ADS Snipers on skyscrapers, myos jumping all over bases, the best geared players fighting the least geared players and certain weapon spam like grenades with hives simply don't make sense here!
All of those features can be tuned, either by tweaking map design or those abilities/features but as it stands new players think this game is broken or something. I've tried to get multiple friends to try it out with me and only 1 has stayed, because he had 21mil SP upon redownloading and logging in on an old character. I only have 7.5mil after about 3 months in.
The guys who stopped playing did so within the first weeks and they all said the same things:
"I get killed too fast and its taking too long to get better gear" (This is definitely the most common reason)
"Why can some people jump so high around me while fighting?"
"How do I get up to where they are camping?"
"Can I just buy more SP?"
As a noob myself I did my best to answer their concerns but most aren't easy answers. These are things I see echoed in the Rookie forums and also in real life, as I continue to ask people to try it out what being F2P and all. So where as the guys who have been around can see the deeper more underlying problems, new players are stuck with a very shallow glimpse into Dust.
And those are the things they glean from their surface level perspectives.

Arkena Wyrnspire wrote:As ever, good insights from someone new enough to really feel these problems.
DUST has fundamental design problems that make it extremely hostile to newbies. I'm not a fan of them, but it's difficult to see how some of them would go.
How do we simply rework rooftop camping mechanics so it's not a cancer on the game and is instead rewarding and accessible, for example?
The gap between newbies and vets is substantial and does not close quickly. But it's also fundamentally tied to the monetisation of the game in such a way that even newbies paying in the hopes of advancing quickly have difficulty truly advancing quickly, whilst simultaneously entrenching the position of vets as 'necessary to monetisation'.
I can spreadsheet warrior all day about this, but it would honestly take such drastic changes to really affect things on some of these vital fronts that I don't believe they'd happen.
Exactly. A lot of the issues are NOT inherent problems within the features or gameplay ideas, but wrapped up together and dropped into the current game with the way maps are just seems silly.
I love the idea of dropships, increased jump, mass drivers, gear progression, open maps, squad tactics and the likes. Many of which are hated on in some form or another, but there's nothing wrong with those features. It's how they are implemented and how they interact with all other elements.
Right now, for lack of better words, the game is a joke. And to fix it would require major changes, play testing and multiple releases all of which require a fully staffed game studio to produce... AKA Ain't gonna happen in this Dust lifetime.
I have a feeling CCP is being less direct about Dusts future because it does have one. It's probably moving in a direction and until there's something solid, keep Dust on life support. We rage and complain until one day its succesor is announced and they hope we forget all about Dust.

Wouldn't that be 18 games? I hope you aren't just adding those up... Here's some set theory for you. A match being a member of the set 'loss' does not exclude it from being a member of the set 'unbalanced team games', or 'protostomper games', or 'redline games'. They can be several at the same time.
Lol thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was pretty obvious but I can see his confusion. Lol.
