Worthless Target wrote:I'm just gonna put this out there. I predict that Dust 514 will remain as a ps3 exclusive title until Sony no longer provides support for the PS3. Once that happens, the Dust team and all their assets will be dissolved and then CCP can go back to focusing on their primary money making game. There isn't going to be a port of any kind, and valkyrie is our replacement because CCP realized that they should stick to what they know best, and that is spaceships. They haven't pulled the plug yet because they're still getting some money out of us. If they were actually going to keep Dust 514, then we would be included in things like fan fest, or other events that involves CCP's fan base. It's also apparent that any mention of us is an embarrassed mumble and they want to just sweep us under the rug and pretend that we don't exist while at the same time trying to not say it to our faces. Totally agree.
Honestly, I don't think Dust fits with the EvE universe. If you look at EvE Online, it's fluid, continuously variable, player-driven. Yes, there's PvE but it's infinitely variable depending on the player, the standings with the corp that's issuing the contract, etc, and then there's PvP which is amazingly flexible and exciting. No set maps, no set formats, just whatever the players concerned want to do. Fleets are amazing. Battles can last 2 minutes or 2 days. It's endless war in nullsec and corps declare war on each other to bring that war into hisec.
Dust was supposed to be the ground-based component of such warfare. Instead, it's degenerated into stylised battles on set maps with very little relation to what's going on in space. Other than the orbital strikes, there's really no connection. Perhaps Valkyrie will be a fighter based addition to EvE carrier warfare. Now that would be interesting. But my feeling is that even that will be all too hard for CCP, and nothing will survive of the dream of the EvE universe but EvE online. Very sad. |

GM Archduke wrote:Ahoy! We mentioned this before - on multiple occasions and threads actually - that we will not hint, comment on or discuss possible future changes, release dates etc. at all until we actually have something to announce/talk about. No more Rouge weddings We can understand that this is not ideal either, and we do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We do not want to seem distant or like we do not care - we're here, we're communicating, we care - but we do have strict internal policies about the above. Sorry Archduke, but we're not asking for future release dates, just some sort of commitment to a future for Dust. Your answer really answers nothing and certainly doesn't give us any indication of such a future. You could just tell us yes or no, is there or is there not going to be a port to another platform, is Dust going to survive in some form past the PS3? The fact you just give the disclaimer that you will not discuss such things indicates you are simply avoiding the issue.
Sorry for being blunt, but your continued lack of any form of guidance on this is wearing very thin. Although I've been around since the Beta days, actively, I'm a fairly new player, and even I can see this is just stringing us along. |

One Eyed King wrote:I can kind of see CCPs point of view.
I don't think they really understand why FF 14 and the way info was released caused problems, and they may not have enough confidence in their understanding to try to be more communicative. I also think that for people involved with Dust on CCPs end, FF 14 was as traumatic, if not much more traumatic, as it was for those of us who already had a lot of time and/or money invested in the game.
At this point the resources are too limited to have someone experienced with PR be able to exclusively handle that communication, so we are left with what we have.
I think many players need to have more understanding for CCPs perspective, and I hope that CCP has at least some empathy for ours. Looks to me that the problem with understanding was caused by lack of communication, at least appropriate, in the first place. So CCP compounds it with silence. Yes, that certainly fits. |

I kind of already implied that there may be something to announce/talk about at some point in the future, don't you think? I would love to think this was true. No, I don't believe you did imply that, but perhaps you're trying to now. Thanks at least for that. :)
Honestly, your silence, as well as your continued statements of the reasons, has led me to believe you are really just stringing us along. Surely, you can see that your internal policies and strategies are having an extremely negative effect on the player base. I'm an EvE player. I have no doubt that EvE is going to be continuing for the foreseeable future. I have that impression from the continual information that we get from CCP about future releases, new ideas coming into the game, that sort of thing. None of that is evident in any way with Dust.
My firm belief is there are no plans to port Dust, that it will simply die when support for the PS3 stops. You have let far too many people develop negative impressions on the future of Dust and far too many of those people leave because of it, for there to be any other way of looking at this. I will be extremely pleasantly surprised to hear of a PS4 and/or PC port, should it actually happen. I firmly believe that if there were such a port actually in development, you would know positively that you could at least tell us it will happen. You may not know that it will be PS4 or PC or both, but you would know it's going to happen, and in the interests of keeping your player base from disintegrating, you would tell us something at least.
And I know you know this, which is why I believe you are not going to port Dust.
Sorry again, but I just don't believe you. |
