No, I would of quit after 2-3 hours. Reason being is that there is nothing there to really help the new players. I created another account so I could confirm this and find out what it is like from their point of view. Of course I did have a better understanding of Dust, so I did not fail as hard.
First, there are no prompts to teach you basic controls and commands. Yes, by now most people would of played an FPS and know the commands would be similar, however the lack of tutorial for something so common and basic is a bit nerve racking. Hell, the Souls series (Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2) is notorious for throwing you to the wolves, but they do teach you the basics first and give you some lube. Because of this, you will be spending the first match learning how to move, like a baby taking it's first steps.
Second, there is no tutorial for skills or fitting loadouts. This is actually something that is crucial to the game yet there is no prompt or anything teaching you how/what to do. Previously there was, however it was no longer there (Note for this experiment I borrowed my mate's PS3 and made a new account using a new email and stuff).
Thirdly, Instant Battle Academy over too quickly. Once you reach over 2,000 lifetime WP, you are thrown to the wolves. For a new player, this really won't take that long, and once they are thrown out to the wolves, they are f.cked. There is no way a new player can compete with a vet or even someone who has been here for a few months, and it is not only because of protosuits and gear, but mainly skills and SP. The new players dont have the SP to stomp back.
Now this game is absolutely amazing, and it is easily within my top three favourite games for the PS3, and in my top 10 of all time favourites, however if I was a new player who never even heard of Dust or EVE, I would of uninstalled after a couple hours.
Edit: All these tutorials can be veiwed under the help menu in your neocom, but let's be honest there, how many people would sit there and go through all of it?
